A) He wasn't supposed to admit he thought the waitress was attractive. B) He wasn't supposed to notice that her shirt was low cut and certainly wasn't supposed to acknowledge that he had noticed. C) He hadn't let her see what was in his pockets, which could only mean that he actually had something to hide.
"She did give you her number, didn't she? And you took it!" That hurt, saying it out loud hurt, and looking into his face hurt. Natalie wasn't reaching for his pockets anymore. Her arms were shifting around herself defensively. People had warned her about Evan, but she hadn't listened. She'd thought he was different, and he seemed to genuinely care about her. Why would he do this? And why now?! Why did he have to do right in front of her?
Natalie's mental walls were starting to weaken with all of her emotions, but she didn't take notice. She was too busy staring at Evan and resiting the urge to cry or beat him over the head with one of those deadly heels she had just taken off.
