Jen had been preparing some tea when she heard the doorbell. After drying her hands on her kitchen towel, she made her way through her house (stopping to check her hair at the mirror in the living room) before reaching the door. She smiled warmly at him and stepped aside so that he could pass. The thought of looking around the neighborhood to see if anyone else was around didn't even occur to her. It was common for Wes to be over to help with things around the house. So what if she was home alone?
"Thank you for coming, Wes," she said as she closed the door behind him. "There's some tea in the kitchen if you would like." She tucked some of her hair absently behind her ear. Was she nervous? This was certainly unlike her. Usually, she was the one in control of the situation. Her nerves had never failed her like this before.
