Waking Laney up early on a Saturday morning was no easy feat. It took a lot of coaxing, a great deal of money and several mentions of Alfie perhaps in compromising situations (such as condom-buying). Nathan was actually a lot easier to get rid of. He tended to disappear on Saturdays anyway, which was just as well considering Jen wanted little to nothing to do with him lately. It wasn't that she hated him. No, it was never that. She could never hate the man who gave her two beautiful daughters. In fact, she still loved him very much. The difference was that she wasn't in love with him. And she knew very well that he wasn't in love with her either. Whether they ever had been in love with each other was also debatable.
All Jen knew was that she had to have the house empty by eleven. And she did one better. She had the house empty at 10:30. Laney had taken her money and suggestions somewhere, and Nathan, well, it didn't really matter. He was just gone, and that was what counted. Actually, he probably wouldn't have minded if she had company over while he was still there, but Jen wasn't risking it. She was risking Wes enough as it was. Wes. Jen smiled. It had been so difficult for her to smile for so long, and now, just thinking about a boy again made her smile and even giggle. Her pulse was quickening, and her cheeks were flushed. It wasn't possible for her to feel this way again, was it?
By the time eleven rolled around, Jen had readied herself for her little helper's arrival. She had on a plain skirt and a simple white button down shirt. But on the inside, she wore something a little sexier. Jen wasn't sure what she was expecting when she invited Wes over. However, she had a pretty good idea she was about to find out.
