The next morning, 9:34 am
Lexie really wasn't comfortable with any of this. Finding out what Rory had done to Fiona was... shocking to say the least, and listening to her spend the night crying into her brother's shoulder (and sometimes Lexie's own) had certainly strengthened her resolve on the matter. She'd talk to Eisen first. From what Fiona and Ben had told her, Rory was already getting a lot of flak for this, especially from Alex. But she was positive that Rory had talked to Eisen, and that if anyone was going to provide a strong defense of Rory's case, it would be him. And as biased as he was, unlike Rory, he was more or less an outsider to the whole situation, and Lexie knew she could trust him. Honestly, the idea of not trusting Eisen (with anything really except, perhaps, his own happiness) had never crossed her mind.
Her intention, when she arrived at his apartment that morning, was to surprise him with breakfast. She'd bought muffins from the coffee shop before she'd come (maybe she might have made them, if she'd spent the night at home). It was still rather early for Eisen to be awake already (especially on a Sunday), but as she closed the door quietly behind her and hung up her coat, she was glad to be there early. If he was still asleep, she could just slip into bed next to him and be there when he woke up. He'd like that, right? Lexie knew she would. With so much drama going on and so many tears being shed, Lexie really felt like she needed her boyfriend. She knew that, as Rory's best friend, he would be just as caught up in the drama as she was. And she knew that he was depressed about it. It was easy to tell. In this situation, needed each other, and she'd decided last night that she was going to be there for him no matter which side of this whole Rory-and-Fiona thing they were on. Maybe they could even act as emissaries to each side. That would make sense, right? Eisen was always talking about how his middle name was Diplomacy.
Shuffling into the kitchen, Lexie looked at Eisen's coffee maker and hesitated. He'd appreciate waking up to some freshly-brewed coffee, no doubt, but she still wasn't exactly sure what time he planned on getting up, and if she was going to take a little morning nap with him she might forget about it. Better to just leave the coffee be, for now. But she could at least take in the muffins. Her lips curled in a smile. Yes. He'd like that. She'd put them somewhere within his reach so they wouldn't even have to get out of bed. Perfect. It was a shame that Lexie had focused on the kitchen; if she'd looked into the living room she might have noticed Rory's wheelchair.
Lexie slipped her shoes off and tiptoed down the hall (although honestly she knew that she didn't need to be so quiet; she knew that Eisen could sleep through practically anything) and pushed open Eisen's bedroom door. Lexie was so focused on her muffin-delivering mission that she'd already taken half a dozen steps across the room before she noticed it. There was Eisen, a sleeping lump cuddled under his blanket on his side of the bed, but on the other... there was another lump. Someone else was sleeping there. On her side of the bed. And there was absolutely no mistaking that familiar shock of red hair.
The muffins fell to the floor, bouncing a few times on the carpet before scattering their crumbs in every direction. As Lexie stared at the scene, her eyes already beginning to cloud with tears, the only sounds that escaped her were a horrified gasp and a half-whispered, half moaned, "How could you?"
