God, why wouldn't his his heart slow down? Rory took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down, but the swell of Eisen's scent only made Rory's heart pound a little harder. It wasn't often that they were this close. Not by a long shot. Rory usually didn't give many hugs on principle. He probably would've, had it not been for the chair. But this situation, this whole week... he'd been physically closer to Eisen than he could ever remember being before, except for the extremely rare cases when he'd let Eisen carry him somewhere.
But it wasn't just the physical closeness that was getting to him. No. Something was... different about Eisen. His tone, his body language, the look in his eyes when Rory had rolled through the door. Could this have been what Gio was talking about? A shiver ran down Rory's spine at the thought. No. It couldn't be. There was no way, not after so many years of wanting and yearning, no way that Eisen would've suddenly woken up that morning and though that Rory was suddenly worth considering as a... romantic possibility. Not when Eisen had Lexie. No. No. Rory had to be imagining it. And yet...
He let out a slow, broken breath at Eisen's avowal. "You don't have to," Rory responded, his voice hushed and laden with regret. "This is enough." He drew back from Eisen a little, reluctantly letting him go and looking directly into his eyes. "You are enough. You're my best friend, Eisen. It's enough just to have you here. It's more than enough."
