That didn't surprise Daniel at all. It seemed like Annie usually had a book on or near her at school and she always kicked his ass when it came to English class. And a few other classes though Daniel didn't like to admit that to himself. He and Annie were probably the best two students of the senior class, if not the high school. Yet, Annie always seemed to beat him just enough to get top spot. What was even more frustrating is that she did it so easily while Daniel had to work his ass off.
Still, he considered it a friendly rivalry. At least Annie was a girl Daniel was actually comfortable talking to. "Are you re-reading it for the book report?" he asked curious while silently wondering if he should pick a classic novel. Stop it, Daniel told himself. Not every assignment is a competition...even if it feels like it.
