“I think I’d like to keep dreaming,” Eisen said softly, his voice taking on a new tone that he never recalled using before. “But that kiss felt pretty real, so I don’t think I am dreaming…” he pointed out. He felt great. He wasn’t sure he’d ever felt quite so good in his life. “I love you,” he repeated. He knew he’d just said it, but he felt like he needed to repeat it. Another thing he had so many years to make up for. And you actually love me too… I’m so lucky.
Eisen almost didn’t notice the oven beep. But it brought him to attention and he smiled a little, stealing another quick kiss before he finally released her from his grasp. He was sort of hungry, but he’d have been perfectly content to just hold her like that all night. “It smells fantastic,” he told her as he followed her into the kitchen and helped her put their plates together. It may have been his birthday, but she’d gone through so much trouble that Eisen wouldn’t have felt right if he didn’t do something.
