It was true. In all the time that Eisen and Rory had done their weekly, or bi-weekly movie night had only been canceled due to Rory being far too sick to get out of bed (and his refusal to allow Eisen to be around him when he was sick for some reason). Even at Eisen’s worst times – breakups with Cait or horrible family fights – they’d still kept the tradition alive. As much as Eisen loved Lexie, he wouldn’t cancel a movie night. He couldn’t do it. “If not, I’m sure you guys can get together soon. But I’m sure she’ll be able to make it,” he smiled. Such was his optimism that night. A birthday date with Lexie, then birthday movie night with Rory… Eisen honestly couldn’t come up with a better way to spend a day, birthday or otherwise.
He stayed standing, watching her dash off into the kitchen and staring at the floor at his feet. How in the world had he gotten so lucky? To have such a thoughtful girlfriend to both go through all the trouble to make such a dinner like this and write him such an amazing song? It had been a long time since someone had treated him quite so well. It was no wonder he loved her.
He listened to the song again, the same exact look of wonderment crossing his face as had done so when he’d listened earlier… except more so. He hadn’t been joking when he’d said that he preferred life performances to listening to things on his computer or on some other media form. He could see the emotion on Lexie’s face and it made his heart swell. Particularly when she sang of love. Maybe he was reading too much into it – he had a tendency to do that sometimes – but the emotion on her face when she’d sang that particular line was more… obvious than the others.
Swallowing thickly when she finished, he stood up and approached her with a gentle smile. It was… it was now or never. “Hey Lex?” he started. “I love you…”
