Walking was out of the question. The Baker house wasn't that far away, but in fifteen degree weather, an inch felt like a mile. She'd managed to convince her father to give her a ride, without relinquishing any of the cookies she had in a tin on her lap. He wouldn't enjoy them. Not as much as her and James would, anyways.
The entire ride was spent in silence, or condescending lecture, with Bobby looking out the window and not listening. She knew her father was just looking out for her, but it wasn't any of his business what her and James 'were'. She snapped that they were friends and the conversation ended. Thankfully, it coincided with their pulling in front of the house. Bobby jumped out immediately. The car was practically still moving.
The cold air hit her like a ton of bricks. It wasn't pleasant. Suddenly, she was glad she endured that awful car ride. Her hands barely felt the wood of the door as she knocked.
