Gideon relaxed a little bit when Ori confirmed that no one had hurt her. “Okay, good,” he said softly, only relaxing when a brief appraisal proved that she wasn’t hurt. She was okay. He nodded into the kitchen. “I’ll make you some soup or something for d-dinner, okay?” She looked like she’d had some kind of traumatic ordeal, but if no one had done anything to her, what was wrong?
He felt fear, fear enough that it felt like he was feeling it himself. Ori’d been the one who had been through something scary, so why was he feeling scared?
It was easy to distract himself from his own fear when Ori mentioned almost being struck by lightning. Eyes widening, Gideon swallowed thickly and tilted his head. Ori always had a certain look on her face when she was lying, not to mention it wasn’t often that she lied to Gideon in general. “Lightning?” he asked, unsure what to say other than that. “It’s January… I’ve heard of thundersnow, but never lightning. Are you sure it was lightning?” If Ori confirmed it, he’d more than likely believe her… Ori wasn’t a liar. But maybe it had been her eyes playing tricks on her.
