Amelia's skills at hiding her crush weren't major fail, Gio was just naturally distrustful of interactions between his brother Ed and girls. Maybe Ed wasn't aware of it, but he was probably a good, round 90% more of a chick magnet than Gio would ever be. Girls were drawn to Gio because (and this was according to himself) he always knew what the homework was, somehow always had free time to hang out and/or study, and was, like, the definition of non-threatening. Girls were drawn to Ed because he was super good looking, charming, and the ultimate boyfriend material. So, yeah, when Gio brought a girl in the house he had the distinct feeling they'd take one good look at Ed and forget all about him, however convenient he was.
And it was a dumb way to think; he knew that. Gio was mature enough to know he was being immature. He valued all of his friends who just so happened to be girls more than to think they were using him to get close to dreamy Edward Spinelli. It still took most of his willpower not to plant himself directly in the middle of the couch so Amelia wouldn't be able to sit next to Ed. She ended up in the middle of them both, and Gio leaned his elbow atop the arm of the couch on his side. There was no reason to be possessive of his blue-haired friend.
"If you let me pick it'll probably be The Science Channel or something similar," Gio confessed, which was sure to be absolutely predictable to both Ed and Amelia. In case Amelia wasn't cool with that, Gio left the remote waiting in Ed's hand for her to take.
