Amelia almost had a heart attack when Markl made it for the street, then a split second later, Penny had him in her grasps by the hood of his shirt. She could calm down then but her heart still continued to pound against her ribcage, like it wanted to make a run for it. Turning her attention away from that potential accident kept her mind off it and more toward what Penny and she were talking about. “Oh? If Bobby makes me a dress I’ll have to wear it somewhere! But that would be awesome. I rather get out of the house that night and not hear my parents nag about me not going to a ‘special occasion’.” After a short chuckle, Amelia shifted to face the direction where their houses were located.
“I’ll try and not be too long, but I’ll send a text to tell you I’m at your front door.” After a small wave and a silly face made toward Markl, Amelia allowed the pup to lead the way. Well, until they had to turn a corner or stop to cross a street after cars passed. It never dawned on her until she was a block away from her house that she was expected to be home for dinner. Whoops. How was she going to get out of this little rut? She could throw the dog into the house quick, yell she was going to eat dinner with Penny, and run off before her mother could stop her. It’s silly how she actually thought that might work and she would get away with it. There were no other ideas floating around in that massive imagination of hers. How sad.
When she got toward the gate door of her home, Amelia slowly opened it with the dog under her one arm – making it easier for her to move around without anyone stopping her. With a quick look around as she walked up onto the back porch, she could see her parents were sitting in the dining room eating. This might actually work, she thought. Unleashing the dog first before opening the door, she looked at him as if giving him the okay to start wiggling to be released, and somehow the dog knew what she was signaling. The back door flew open, her parents were getting ready to stand up – her mother mostly – and the dog was thrown in with the leash being thrown into the basket that was close to the back door. “Hey guys! I’m going over to Penny’s for dinner, alright? I won’t be out late!” Amelia was shouting this as she was waving and closing the door. She was quick to move off the porch before hearing someone open the back door. Hearing her mother yell after her confirmed it was her that opened the door. Amelia continued to say she wasn’t going to be late and she promised to call before coming home (like that was really going to happen).
She was a little out of breath when she finally made it, since she ran all the way there. Her hands shaking a little as she typed the text message but it was sent without any misspellings or missed words, “hey! I’m here!” She was smart to wear flats today or else she really wouldn’t have been able to go through with that plan of hers.
