“Don’t they all?” Amelia teased, sending a grin toward Penny’s way. Her attention went back to her dog and Markl, and noticed he was trying to pet the feisty little thing. She let the pooch down and allowed the boy to pet the animal until his heart was content.
She was about to say something else to Penny, but the sneeze interrupted her and Markl as well as Amelia both said bless you at the same time; but she didn’t add the ‘Nenny’ to it. It would never dawn on her that the dog was making the other girl sneeze, since they were out in the cold and cold could make anyone sneeze. Amelia right away thought Penny was sick and couldn’t stop the sniffles even if she tried.
When the candy offer wasn’t denied and she got a cute ‘please’ out of it, she bent down toward the kid’s level and showed him what she had in the baggie that was resting on her wrist earlier. She didn’t want to pick something out that he wouldn’t like when she saw that small hand reach out toward her. “Let’s see; I have mini Reese’s cups, Heresy Kisses, a big Heresy bar,” she paused then, closing the bag quick to give a playful glare toward Markl, “that one is mine.” The bag was reopened and moving closer toward the boy so he could pick out of those two choices what he wanted.
While Markl made up his mind, she tilted her head up and looked up toward Penny with a smile. Finally commenting on what she said earlier about her parents. “I thought news would get at least a cat nap or two. But I can see where it gets all crazy because of their lack of sleep.” Amelia was being playful again, flashing one of those bright smiles toward the other girl before going back to watching her dog sniff out the little boy with his tiny tail wagging like a helicopter blade.
