Who: Emma and Francis and NPC!Jacob What: Lexie is hurt Where: hospital When: shortly after Lexie falls
Emma was all out of sorts. She'd received a text from Francis shortly after school had ended. She was grading papers, most of them dreadfully inaccurate, when she got the bad news. It was a late day for her normally. Her detention students were cleaning gum off the undersides of all the desks and the stack of essays still to grade were piled high in front of her. But at that moment, it didn't seem to matter. Her baby girl, her pride and joy, was in the hospital.
She sent a quick few texts to Alfie and Annie each, and popped the remaining essays into her school bag. Standing, she addressed the children in front of her. "You're done for the day. Go home." None of them argued, though it was clear from their faces that they'd expected to stay there for another hour. "Come on, let's go." She shuffled them out as quick as she could, slung her bag over her shoulder and practically ran to her car.
Once in the safety of her own vehicle, she dialed her husbands number. She explained to him what little information she had on the matter and resolved to pick him up in five minutes. She suspected Jacob didn't have an issue leaving. He usually taught early classes and reserved the rest of his day for office hours. He had been alone when she phoned. As expected, he was already waiting outside the entrance of Hobbs when she drove up.
"I'm really worried. What if she's really hurt?" Emma said, almost immediately. Jacob leaned over and kissed his wife gently on the temple. "Everything will be fine," he replied. "Let's just get there." Emma shifted the car into gear, then reached over and grabbed her husbands hand.
It took them a little under five minutes to get to the hospital. Thankfully, the island was small and things were mostly grouped together. She left the car for Jacob to park and hurried inside. "Hi, I'm looking for my daughter, Alexandria Tibbits? She was brought in here not too long ago by Francis Drake? She fell down a flight of stairs?" Everything was coming out as a question. Truthfully, it was probably the one thing that was keeping her from breaking down.
She waited for Jacob to come inside before she let the nurse lead them to Lexie's room.
