Lexie had reached the practice room early that morning, despite her lack of sleep. Unsurprisingly she'd tossed and turned all night, and finally, after surrendering the inevitable deluge of tears around 2 am, she was able to get a little rest. She'd brought only a water bottle, a granola bar, and (of course) her flute and music with her into the practice room, but ironically she'd started not with her flute but with the piano. There was something about the ability to pound at piano keys that was appealing to her when she was upset, so it was only after several runs through her favorite bad-mood songs she'd felt ready to pick up her flute. The hours melted away as she played and played. As a music major, Lexie was completely used to staying holed up in a practice room for hours on end, although the ability to play the music that she wanted to rather than the music that she had to play made a very nice change.
Lexie was ultimately glad that she'd set an alarm on her phone to remind her when it was 12:15 - if she hadn't, she certainly would've missed her appointment with her father. After she finished one last song, she carefully packed up her music bag and hurried down the steps to meet her dad. He didn't want to have to make him walk all the way to the music building to meet her, and she tried to take in the prettiness of the trees and flowers on campus as her steps carried her down the familiar path to the science center, and her father's office. It was difficult, though - the brightly colored flowers that she usually found so cheerful seemed so much duller today. Upon arriving at her dad's office she knocked quietly on the half-open door before sticking her head inside, doing her best to maintain a happy expression. "Hey Daddy. Are you about ready?"
