"Now I know what to get you for your birthday," Jacob grinned, "And as long as you make him think it was his idea, I'm sure Alfie would be on board with freaking out the town." He opened the cupboard and put the dry dishes Annie had already taken care of away. Nodding at her answer, he said, "That's nice of you. Better than my second reason. See, aside from being forced by your mom, the only reason I do dishes? Is so that everyone is so shocked and grateful I'm doing them, they don't ask me what's going on."
He took the glasses from Annie and met her eyes. "So what's going on? I'm pretty good at the listening thing if you want to talk about it."
