Submitting prompts now?
I had a few people asking if we could go ahead and start taking prompts. I've discovered that we're now also in the same timeframe as [info]kinkfest, as someone pointed out to me.

So, now I have a question here, and to see if anyone is actually interested in this round. *looks at the quiet from the last one*

Do you guys want to start taking prompts now and write in May, or wait until May to take prompts?

I didn't participate last round, but I was kinda hoping to do this one ^^;;; I like genfic, more than porn (which you can probably tell by looking even at my porny stuff, which is mostly plot, too). I dunno why I haven't gotten involved in gen_challenge before now.

For the purposes of momentum, starting to take prompts now and writing in May might work better. You'll be out of sync with no_true_pair and yaoi_challenge then, at least. I dunno what kinkfest's timeline is, though, so for all I know that could put you in direct competition with them.

There are too many awesome challenges! ^_^

Well, Het, Yaoi, and Yuri all had their coms, so I figured Gen needed its own. Though I do wish it was more active. *Pokes it* Last round barely got any attention at all. And I can only pimp it so much.

I'm thinking about starting prompt submissions the 21st, which is a Monday, and let people start picking that Friday. Then start posting May 1st.

I was asked last round, and, personally? I don't mind if people submit prompts here that they sent to other places, like Kinkfest or Areyougame. *needs to look at Yaoi Challenge* I keep forgetting to.

I think Gen really did need its own! I love that there is one *grins* I love my porn, but I think fandom needs more neat plotty things, too.

My issue surrounding the timing of various challenges is more to do with not overloading myself with fics I've committed to write, lol. I rarely can manage a fic that's shorter than 3000 words, so I can't do the thing that people do with picking 30 prompts and writing drabbles for them all. It's just not how I'm wired, somehow. So I kinda need to stagger my deadlines to give myself enough time to write everything I want to write.

I think last gen_challenge round was just at a bad time for me. >.< But I do want to do it this time.

/babbling unhelpfully

Nah. I love it when people want to chat. I've always been a talkative person, and I've been told that's part of why some people like leaving me feedback. I'll chatter away at them. *grins*

I try hard to keep from intersecting with too many challenge coms. I am one of those people who can do thirty or forty ficlets for a challenge, but I know a lot of people aren't. So I try not to coincide with any of the big ones like Yaoi, Kinkfest, or Yuletide. Same goes for Nano.

Looks like we're going to post and claim prompts the end of this month, write for May. I'll know for sure by tonight.

eeeee *makes a spot in my to-do list and bounces* Original fic? What original fic. I shall do nothing but fanfiction between now and when I leave for school! *shakes a fist for great justice*

It's probably smart not to try to compete with some of those big ones. People get overloaded with them, and wouldn't really look at the smaller challenges :(

Heh, and on that list, there's only one I haven't actually done (kinkfest) and I just submitted a bunch of prompts to them.

I can participate for prompt submission whenever, but highly doubt I can claim any prompt for this round ^^;;

Also: this being a multi-fandom make it rather hard to pimp, unless you have multiple available prompts for each fandom.

Question: is there a reason why the prompt submission post is screened? Wouldn't you get multiple similar prompts that way?

I just tend to pimp on my main journal, where my friends see it. I got such a variety of people who read a variety of things, so there is always people with different ideas to toss out. Besides, limiting to one fandom, unless I do some popular one, limits what people can offer up.

Screened to keep people from seeing who prompted what, which is part of the fun. At least to most people. Makes it fun to see if whoever requested liked you story, even if you don't know them. Plus, we had an issue once or twice where some people would only pick from certain prompters.

Multiple similar prompts aren't too bad, since they are always somewhat different.
