In the student center there is a projector. This projector is always there and it normally has some news story or another being magnified onto a large screen next to it. Sometimes the stories are informative, other times jokes are projected just for a smile.
Today's story however is different.
"Kristina Jamenson- friend, colleague and professor, died of brain hemorrhaging around 1am Sunday morning. This is an unfortunate and terrible loss to our school and to the community in which she served and lived. Professor Jamenson will always be remembered with a smiling face as she taught us lessons about algebra and acceptance for one another regardless of gender, orientation, age or abilities.
Her life began in a quaint little town in Virginia back in the 60's where she attended elementary school then middle and high school. Earning excellent marks and making volunteer work with her local church part of her regular schedule assured Kristina a bright future and plenty of well paying job opportunities but she refused them all. Instead insisting that her life goal would be to help others as much as she could.
Over the period of the 30 years before she arrived at Freedem Kristina has helped many non-profits and equality supporting organizations, just a few examples include: The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE).
Her resume was impressive as was her passion for teaching when she showed up for an interview at Freedem six years ago, fresh from helping teach mathematics and basic English skills to children in foreign countries so that they would have a better chance at a life their parents never had. Her life was a testament to what a good person was and her actions dictated what every parent wishes their child could have done.
Professor Jamenson, as many of you know her, will be deeply missed among the staff, faculty and student body of Freedem University. Please keep her and her family in your thoughts in their time of hardship.
An open casket memorial service will take place Friday the 27th afternoon from 12pm-4pm at New Hope Baptist Church located at 268 Perham Street. The funeral will take place 10am on Saturday the 28th.
Saturday evening a candle light vigil will be held in addition. This will be beginning at the student center and walking through down town Sharon.
Until the university can find proper replacements for professor Jamenson's courses please assume that your class is on hiatus for the rest of the week unless otherwise notified. The department is working diligently to not interrupt the course schedule and students should expect professors Jamensons' courses to be picked up by other faculty members."
A note for players: No faculty has been named or stepped up to take over Professor Jamenson's courses as of yet. Currently, unless the school notifies you otherwise, please do not expect any math courses she would have been teaching or any super powered courses.
