Waiting for Arizona to get home from work was agonizing. She knew she'd made the right choice, because she wanted this talk to be done the right way... but god she'd wanted to just go to the hospital and get it over with. Kate was out with Michiru, and Erin was in her room watching TV... which left Ellis to pace back and forth across the living room, barefoot and just dressed for comfort in low-riding pink sweatpants and a Metallica baby tee, nibbling absently at her fingernails as she focused on the seconds going by. Arizona was still riding her end-of-shift rush as she arrived back at the house. It was a boost of energy she always got when leaving the hospital after a good day. It usually lasted her an hour or two before the fatigue of the long day began to set in. Once inside, pulled off her shoes and hung her purse on a hook near the door. She could clearly see Ellis pacing the living room from her spot in the entryway. "You can stop wearing a hole in the carpet," she teased. "I'm home. Just give me a second to text Kate and get a glass of wine and I'm all yours." "Ok. Yeah. Cool." Ellis said, stopping in her tracks... but still chewing on her fingernails. She was trying not to look nervous and was failing on an impressive amount of levels. "Mind bringing a glass of wine for me too?" She asked, taking a few deep breaths to calm her nerves. Arizona had already picked up on the tension and nerves in Ellis's voice, and while her curiosity was certainly piqued, she wasn't too worried yet. After all, Ellis had promised it wasn't anything bad. And Arizona trusted her at her word. She shot a quick text off to Kate to check in, then moved over to the kitchen to pour two glasses of red wine. "Hi." Arizona entered the room gracefully with the help of her new leg. It really was almost exactly like having her real leg back again, and there wasn't a day that went by that she wasn't grateful for it. She gave Ellis a quick hello kiss and handed her a glass of wine. She set her own glass down on a coaster before she settled herself down onto the couch. "Go ahead and spill. You look like you're about to burst." "Ok. Whew. Breathe, Ellis." The younger woman told herself audibly, leaning in to give Arizona a sweet, brief kiss on the lips.... before hilariously downing the glass of wine in one long chug. "Woo. Ok. Anyway. So.... Arizona. As was made uncomfortably obvious your first day here, I have loved you with every single part of my heart and soul for what feels like forever. I've both destroyed myself and built myself back up, all in the name of how powerful my feelings for you are. And.... I'm happy. I am. I love sharing a family and a home with you. But it's not enough." She turned her back for a moment, fishing into the pocket of the sweatpants she wore. Arizona smiled affectionately as Ellis tried to calm herself down. The younger woman really couldn't hide a thing from anyone. She listened patiently to everything Ellis was saying, drawing her own conclusions as she went. She had a very good idea where this was leading, of course. Ellis had never exactly made her plans a secret. So she just smiled and let her girlfriend continue. Turning around, Ellis pulled a small white box from her pocket, taking another deep breath. "Arizona Robbins... I love you. I love everything about you. I love the way you smile, that little snort-giggle you give when I say something funny, the mind-blowing things you do in the bedroom, the way you made Kate and Erin both feel like your children.... literally everything. And I know I've asked you for a lot since you showed up here. So... forgive me for asking you for one more major thing." She opened the box, revealing a gorgeous gold ring with several huge, sparkling diamonds atop it, before slowly dropping to one knee. "Arizona... will you be my wife?" She knew it was coming. She thought she'd been prepared. But an unexpected rush of emotion washed over her as she watched Ellis drop to one knee. She adored Ellis and loved their life together. But there were still pieces of her that were raw from the failure of her last marriage. But despite how things had ended with Callie and everything she'd been through, Arizona felt hope. Hope that this time things would be different. She held her hand out to Ellis with a small smile and a few tears glistening in the corners of her eyes. "Yes." "Oh thank CHRIST." Ellis laughed, a huge breath of relief escaping her as she slid the ring onto Arizona's finger. "I know how much Erin adores you... so I took her with me to help pick the ring. Baby... I am so insanely happy... I don't even care which last name we go with, as long as we share a name. You're amazing, you're beautiful... and you're mine." Arizona joined in with the laughter and wrapped her arms around Ellis to pull her in close. "All yours." She brushed a little of Ellis's hair away from her face before she pulled her now fiancee in for a much deeper kiss. |
