New Friends
Who: Cosima and Holly
Where: The Hospital
When: After the sing-alongs but before the big move
What: Becoming friends!
Rating: Low
While excited about the prospect of moving, Cosima was also a tad nervous. She couldn't really explain it. For a want of someone to talk to, she decided to pay a visit to Holly at the reception desk at the hospital. They were on friendly terms but weren't exactly friends. It was time to change that.
"A little birdie told me that you love french vanilla with cream and sugar," she started conversationally, setting a large take-out cup on the counter in front of the younger woman. She smiled dazzlingly. "Tell me I'm wrong."
Cosima was wearing blue jeans, boots and (of note) a black turtleneck with her favourite red jacket (one of the few things she had on her when she was transported to Knowwhere). She looked... Radiant. Happy. Like she was in orbit of Cloud 9 and didn't look to be coming down anytime soon.
Holly couldn't help but think that considering her typical fashion sense, she cleaned up QUITE well for work. Her hair was tied back, and she wore a short beige dress with black heels. AND ROCKED IT ALL, thank you. "Annnnd would this be a blonde birdie with a killer smile and legs for days?" Holly chuckled, looking up to graciously accept the coffee. She couldn't help but adore Cosima: the woman was as sweet as she was lovely. "Thanks, Cosima. This was really kind of y-..." She started to say, before taking a good look at her. Holly felt an amused grin form on her lips as she raised an eyebrow. "Wow. I am.... gonna take a shot in the dark here and guess sex with a literal goddess is every bit as mind-blowing as I imagine."
Cosima tapped her nose when Holly referenced Lauren. When Holly mentioned sex Cosima blushed brightly. "Oh god. It isn't that obvious that I've just had sex, is it?" She asked with a laugh. Still, she was more open to discussing sex than most people. She attributed that to her upbringing. "But yeah, mind-blowing about covers it. Honestly we've been so insatiable lately I'm surprised that I'm even here. Or, y'know. Walking." She wrinkled her nose. "Too much of an over-share?"
"Dear sweet lord, no." Holly said, wide-eyed. "In fact, I am in awe of you." Hah! She grinned a little, nibbling her bottom lip. "I won't even lie and say Lauren and I haven't both discussed what that woman must be like." Crinkling her nose a little, she gave an embarrassed laugh. "That wasn't meant to sound as sleazy as it did. Sorry."
Cosima laughed and waved if off, taking no offense. "Being with her is like nothing else." She grinned in a dreamy way, obviously in love. "How've things been with you and Lauren? Any spontaneous singing?"
"Lauren was lucky. She managed to avoid it entirely. Me? Sadly I was not so fortunate." Holly grumbled, sipping happily at her coffee. "I mean... I've had some shameful moments in my life, but I'm not sure anything beats the moment I spontaneously serenaded the woman I love with a rousing rendition of 'As Long As You Love Me' by the freaking Backstreet Boys..."
Cosima's eyes widened and she laughed loudly and melodically. "Oh my god. You're kidding, right?" When Holly didn't adjust her story, Cosima bent over with laughter. "How did Lauren take it?"
"Oh... I could tell she was really flattered and touched, deep down." Holly said, before burying her face in her hands. "Not that it stopped her from giggling way harder than I even knew she was capable of." She gave a defeated-yet-amused look at Cosima, before sighing. "So, did either of you go all American Idol?"
"I'm sure she really loved it," Cosima replied, still giggling her head off. When Holly asked if they'd had their own singing experience that blush of Cosima's came back. "Believe it or not Angela can sing. You ever heard that song #1 Crush by Garbage? Yeah." She nibbled on her bottom lip. "It was really intense and sweet, and mildly surprising that she knew that song, but it also made sense, you know?" That humming happy energy around Cosima wasn't going anywhere anytime soon, by the looks of it.
"Get. The. Hell. Out." Holly said, a hint of laughter barking out. "The War Goddess herself wasn't even exempt from this? And what a song! Jesus. You are one lucky woman, Cosima. Seriously." So Holly and Lauren might have talked about how hot they find Angela once or twice. Or ten times. Shh.
"Trust me, I know," Cosima beamed. Angela had been in a bad place when they'd first met, but the change in her now was just phenomenal. "I honestly can't imagine a life without her in it, you know?"
Holly just gave a goofy grin, clearly thinking of Lauren then. "Yeah. I... know exactly what you mean." She leaned back in her chair, crossing her legs delicately. "I used to sit here, thinking about how badly I needed to get home... now? As long as Lauren's here, this is where I want to be."
Cosima nodded, in absolute agreement there. Love, ey? It makes fools of us all. "What do you think about the big move? It sort of feels like a new chapter in our lives."
Holly couldn't help but smile there. She realized quickly that Cosima wasn't just being nice to a co-worker's girlfriend... she was legitimately being a friend. "It really does. I'm excited about it though. I mean, we're making history, you know? All of us. And now that we can stay if we choose... I feel like a lot of us can finally really make a life for ourselves here."
Cosima nodded. She felt conflicted, because she knew that she was needed back home, but as previously stated? She couldn't imagine a live without Angela in it. If only she could find out how everything was going back home. It didn't do well to dwell on it, so she tried not to. "I feel a little cheated, though," she admitted. "I know that we're gonna move somewhere a lot better and I shouldn't complain, but it's not going to be the home that we built together. Does that make sense?"
"It totally does." Holly said with an understanding nod. "I mean... those housing units... they're not much, but since we got here, they're the only home we've known. It feels... almost weird to be going to live on an actual world again."
Cosima nodded, in total agreement. "I think the transition for most people would be easy enough, but I do worry about some people. Like Alex. I doubt she'd be needed to do transport stuff anymore, so where does that leave her? And the security people... I guess they'd be neighborhood watch? How does that even work?" She wrinkled her nose. "I've clearly been overthinking it."
Holly nodded, as really, Cosima was actually bringing up a lot of good points. "I only know the little bit I've gotten out of Quill when he's here flirting with me... apparently everyone who has a job up here will be given either the same job or something comparable. So... my guess is that in the case of Alex, she'd probably be used in bringing supplies to and from the new places."
"That makes sense." Cosima nodded. "Oh, did I tell you? One of the new vampires here doesn't like the taste of the synthetic blood that Lauren and I worked on and asked us to tweak it. I mean, I'm up for the challenge, don't get me wrong, but it's not like I go around drinking blood all the time." And Eric seemed to like it well enough. Unless he was getting blood from somewhere--someone-- else. "So that could take us some time to work on."
"....I swear, you and Lauren are so goddamn smart." Holly said, wide-eyed, as she shook her head slightly. "Like... I'm constantly at a loss for whether to be impressed by the two of you or just really turned on." Oh, they were friends now, right? A little good-natured teasing never hurt anything.
Cosima laughed. "Both is fine." She winked. It was friendly banter, so she didn't see the harm in it. Then again, she'd never act that way around Angela, not wanting her goddess to beat up her new friend. Heh. "If you get some free time you're welcome to come over and watch us at work. At least until we move to new facilities", she offered.
"Can I bring popcorn? Cos that'd be better than going to the movies, with all that scenery." Holly said with an impish grin, the twinkle in her eyes as she playfully flirted just adorable.
Cosima laughed. "Only if you share." She blinked and practically face-palmed. Before Angela, before even Delphine? She would have been into the idea. "The popcorn. I meant the popcorn."
Holly couldn't help but snort back laughter, all while letting out a low whistle, playfully. "Holy crap.... now that you mention it, there's a thought that's gonna get me through some of Lauren's long shifts away from home..."
"What have I done?" Cosima asked with a laugh, practically face-palming. "In all seriousness though, if you ever feel lonely or at a loss for what to do while Lauren's at work you're always welcome to call me."
"I'd like that. Maybe have a girls night out, you know? Drinking, dancing, being the distractingly hot chicks that we are..." Holly laughed, wondering why it took this long for the two of them to really talk. Cosima was just so sweet and charming!
And so was Holly! Cosima beamed. "Okay, we're totally doing this sooner rather than later." It was hilarious the way that she made that sound like a threat!
