Being a Hair...Naughty
Who: Darcy and Thor
Where: Darcy's Room at #503 Devron...and then they 'borrow' a ship.
When: After singing but before Torunn shows up.
What: Thor and Darcy are bored. Nothing good comes of this.
Rating: Fairly low
"Lady Darcy!" Thor called out in his booming yet jovial voice as he thumped his fist on his friends apartment door. "The day is young! I say we go explore!" Well, 'day' was a bit much, since they were living in an artificial environment, but it was the best that he could come up with, okay?
Darcy had been reading a book when he started pounding on the door, and jumped so hard that she actually threw the book across the room. When she realized it was just Thor, she laughed, getting up and answering the door. "You trying to give me a heart attack dude?" She asked him with a giggle.
"Not at all." Thor grinned. He found it amusing that he'd startled her out of whatever she was doing, though. "Were you doing anything important?"
"You would find that funny," she remarked. "And not a whole lot. Just reading a book, keeping myself busy. What are you up to, dude?"
Thor continued grinning. Being on Knowhere he'd mellowed out quite a lot. It helped that he had such a wonderful drinking buddy, though! "Not all that much, to be honest," he admitted. "But I'd hoped to change that, with your aid."
She laughed, shutting the door behind her. "Well, I'd be happy to help with that!" she said. "Any particular sort of fun that you want to find today, or would you rather just see where the wind takes us?"
"The wind! It happens to be very funny that you should use that turn of phrase," he replied, still with that maddeningly cheerful grin on his face, like a kid on their way to Disneyland. "How would you feel about... borrowing a ship and making our own adventure?"
"Borrowing? Thor, you devious scamp!" Darcy said playfully with a grin. "You know I'm all about making my own adventure." When she was alone, Darcy tried to be at least a little cautious, but, with Thor around, she felt perfectly safe. After taking a second to lock her door, she nodded to him. "Come on, let's have an adventure together."
Thor offered Darcy his arm to take, happy to be in her company. She was a little bit of home and he never tired of spending time with her. This universe was far different from their own, yet he felt confident that they could explore without anything untoward happening. Also, hey, a god. So he could handle most things that mere mortals couldn't. "You know, I think that I'd like to teach you to fly."
It really was nice having Thor here with her. Yeah, there were a TON of people from her universe here, but he was the only one that she really knew. "Really? I think I'd like to learn to fly, actually," she said with a grin. Well, she wasn't the one to hit Thor with a truck way back when, so it wasn't like he could hold her driving against her or anything!
Once at the elevator, Thor pushed the call button and waited patiently for it to reach their floor. "I have every confidence that you'll enjoy it." While there was no guarantee for the future, but at least it could give her some options for the short-term, if she decided that she liked it. "But with me as your teacher, how could you not!"
"Very true. You make everything fun." They always did have some kind of fun together, whether it was drinking or getting into some kind of mischief. Plus, if she could fly, maybe she could help out with something around here. Maybe she wouldn't have to hide away during the next attack. Hopefully, that wouldn't come up any time soon!
Hopefully another attack wasn't imminent! Once the elevator reached their floor he escorted Darcy inside. "We could see if there are any worlds nearby that we could explore as well," he added as an afterthought. Provided that she could land, or even if they could get permission to land! But one thing at a time!
Darcy's eyes lit up a little when he said that. "You really think so!" She certainly didn't get to explore things much around here, being a normie and all, so getting to see some real alien worlds would be insane!
Thor clapped his hand on Darcy's shoulder. "Why not!" They'd been on their best behaviour long enough, as far as he was concerned! Once they'd reached the ground floor, he led the way to the docking bay, sure that they'd find an unoccupied ship. He'd make up some grand excuse as to why they were going out but since he was Thor he didn't think that that would be an issue.
It looked like they were basically in the clear as far anyone looking their way. Darcy was definitely excited about this. When she'd flown before, it was just in normal airplanes at home. Nothing really exciting about that. This, on the other hand, was going to be SO awesome! "Which one should we pick?" she asked him.
The funny thing about arriving at the docking bay was that it was almost like shopping for a new pair of jeans (one ship was too big, another too small, etc). Thor walked down a long catwalk, looking at the readouts for the different ships. A few were freighters and passenger transports, far too clunky for what he had in mind. One ship did catch his eye though, and he inspected the readout for it. "The Milano. Hrm. I think this would suit out purposes just fine!"
"You're the expert here," Darcy said when he picked one out. Space ships looked like space ships to her. She wasn't totally aware of the little differences between them. Sure, one was bigger and one was smaller, but that was about all the differences that she understood.
"We're taking this one!" Thor said to the staff along the docking bay. Sure, this ship probably belonged to someone, but this was Thor. Like they could really change his mind or stop him. He guided Darcy into the ship and took a seat behind the helm as the doors closed behind them. He fully intended to lead them out into open space before teaching her what she needed to know. "We'll start simply and go from there. I can't imagine that it'd be all that different from driving a car."
Darcy saw a couple of the staff members look confused as to whether they should stop them or not as they walked up into the ship and had to laugh. Was anyone really going to argue with Thor? How were you going to stop him? "Do I need to take a seat and buckle up or can I stand? Never rode in a space ship like this before, so I'm kind of flying by the seat of my pants here." Ha! She wasn't even trying to be punny.
Thor laughed. "You'll want to sit down," he told her, a big grin on his face as he started the engine (or whatever the spaceship equivalent of that is). He eased the ship out of the docking bay and waited until she was properly situated before really gunning it, sending them out into space. He needed this. He needed some kind of action with things being so quiet lately.
Nodding, she sat down in the seat behind him, buckling herself in. She certainly had no idea about Thor's driving abilities, and, while she didn't think he'd get them killed (or at least her, with his super hardy-ass), she didn't want to hurt herself by flying across the ship if he somehow had to make a sudden stop. Did you even make sudden stops in space? How did this work?
"Oh my god gravitational pull!" she squealed as he gunned it. She had been plastered back into her seat until they hit space proper. No wonder astronauts had to be super beefy! At least, unlike them, she wouldn't be doing any floating around the ship. That sounded like fun for about five minutes until it made her throw up. Not a cute thing to do in front of a thunder god.
It would've made for a hell of a story though. Once out into space proper Thor slowed the spaceship down, taking the time to take in his surroundings. Now that they were in open space he could see that they were far from anything that they could possibly collide with, so that was something. "I don't know whose ship this is, but it flies very well!" And the controls were very easy too. He'd worried that he'd picked something a little too advanced, but felt confident that Darcy could pick it up easily enough.
He looked over at Darcy and couldn't help it but smile. She looked like she belonged there. "Now, you appear to be in the gunners seat, but if you pull back that toggle there," he pointed, "it should give you control of the ship."
It would have made a great story, but oh god it would not have been fun. Once they were in space and she could focus a bit, she couldn't help but look around and be awed by seeing all the stars surrounding them. She was sure that most of the people she knew here took such a sight for granted, but she'd never had the chance to really see anything like it before.
"I'll have to take your word on how well it flies. Never been in one before," she explained, looking down at the toggle he indicated, putting herself in control. "You're gonna have to walk me through all of this, big guy, because I have no idea what any of these controls do," she told him. She was more than happy to learn, though.
Thor beamed and rather than continuing to point from his seat, he made his way over to stand behind Darcy. At least this way he could guide her a little easier. He looked over the controls briefly and nodded to himself, satisfied. "You'd use this," he leaned over her and grasped the stick on her left hand side and tilted it just slightly to the left, moving the ship with the easy action, "to steer."
"Now you try." He grasped her hand and placed it over the stick. "Don't do anything too quickly. Unless you want to see me splattered against the wall," he joked.
She was relieved that he had come over to help her with the controls. Just trying to direct from the seat he had been in might have ended up with them crashed into some distant planet. She grasped the stick when he placed her hand over it, moving it gently to the right and, when she felt the ship move, giggled excitedly.
"Well, with you, it would mostly just be funny. Splattering me against a wall winds up with broken bones," she pointed out. "I promise to be careful, though," she added, giving him a wink. "So, where should we go with this bad boy?"
Thor grinned. "You're stronger than you think, Darcy Lewis." He understood what she meant, though. Midgardians didn't have the durability of gods! He gave serious consideration to her question and pointed to a nearby moon. "Let's try there."
She smiled up at him. She was strong in a lot of ways. That much she knew. She then turned and looked toward the moon. Immediately, Star Wars 'That's no moon' ran through her head, but she doubted Thor would get it. Making a mental note to show Thor Star Wars, she nodded, taking a deep breath as she moved the stick so that they were slowly gliding toward the moon.
When she showed him Star Wars he'd likely ask if it was a documentary, funnily enough. He smiled to himself and stood back up, crossing his muscular arms over his chest, giving her full control of the helm. He made a mental note that next time they'd land and explore a planet, but right now learning to pilot a ship was more important. Once they got closer to the moon, he instructed her to circle around. "You're a natural."
Considering that Darcy knew that Luke Skywalker, among others, was here, she might actually tell him that, while it was fiction at home, it might as well be considered a documentary now. She smiled when he said that she was a natural. "Thanks," she said, doing as he instructed. "It's nice to hopefully develop a skill that's actually useful here. I'll likely never be a warrior, taser wielding aside, but maybe I can be a pilot."
"You can be anything that you want to be, Lady Darcy," Thor replied, giving her shoulder (what amounted to him) a light squeeze.
