Since his arrival on Galador, Bode had tried his best to keep busy. He'd found an apartment and a part time job in Sunnydale within a few days of arriving. He'd even made a few friends along the way, but he wasn't one to forget his family, which is why he called Aurora and Aubrey to see if they'd like to join him for a coffee. Only Aubrey could show up at the time he'd arranged, but he'd catch up with the Munchkin soon anyway.
He stood outside of Chloe's Sugar Shack, dressed in jeans and a maroon hoodie, completely oblivious to the attention he was attracting from others.
Considering that when they met, Aubrey was more into skater clothes, fishnet tops, and goth makeup... scenes like this were a stark reminder of how much growing up the girl had done the last few years. When Aubrey walked up to him, she was fresh-faced, wore a short skirt, a black suitcoat over a low-cut black blouse, and heels that made her legs look amazing.
"Hey there, handsome!" Aubrey called out with a grin, hugging him tightly as she got close enough.
"Aw, you're gonna make a fella blush," Bode replied, leaning down to hug Aubrey back. He'd held a great deal of affection for her from the day that they'd met and consider her as family.
"Wow, you look amazing, by the way," he said, stepping back to admire her in her outfit.
"Thank you. I'm stopping by Madhouse later for a promotional thing with fans for the new album, and wanted to look my best." Considering what we know about Neely and Rachelle... this mature, responsible side of Aubrey was clearly Morgan's influence. She leaned in to give him a kiss on the cheek, before taking his hand and leading him inside. "C'mon. Let's get a table."
He followed behind her obediently, not minding the handholding a single bit. "That sounds super exciting. What time should I expect you to abandon me?" He gave her his best kicked-puppy face.
"Oh lord, Bode." She laughed, rolling her eyes. God he could be a ham sometimes. Finding them a table, she sat down, delicately crossing her legs. "I'm not due there for almost 2 hours. So we have more than enough time. So talk to me... what's been going on? Anything interesting?"
"A few things," he told her as he took the seat opposite her. He sat up straight and joined his hands on the table. "Work's been pretty chill. Everyone there's really nice. I'm thinking about going to college in the fall. I made a new friend." He smiled. "Oh! Which reminds me." He leaned forward as if what he was about to say next was a big secret: "What do you think about me volunteering at Open Arms? Maybe like a peer support thing?"
"I think something like that would be perfect for you." Aubrey told him without a second thought. "You're always happiest when you're helping people.. and as a bonus you'd be working with that bloody gorgeous vampire, Carmilla." Aubrey was extremely happy with Aurora... but dammit she still liked to look, ok? She grinned at him, before reaching over to playfully ruffle his hair. "You have no idea how much I missed you, love."
Bode smiled. He had a general idea how long Aurora and Aubrey had been on Galador by their demeanor alone. They'd both seemed to have grown so much, both physically and emotionally. "You really seem to have found your place here."
"It was rough at first." Aubrey admitted, looking a little ashamed. "Before 'Rora got here... I was starting to fall back into my old habits. I thought Morgan was going to pick a fight with a vampire at one point. But your sister... balances me. She's what centers me and keeps me going."
Bode reached over to pat Aubrey's hand. She didn't need to go into detail beyond that. "She also sees the good in you, even if sometimes you don't," he pointed out.
"Sometimes... I feel more like she is the good in me. Like, I'm better for having her with me." Aubrey said, before shaking her head. "Anyway. So tell me what you've been up to. Make any new friends here yet? Or is Brianna still being too clingy for you to meet anyone else?"
"She's not clingy." Actually, Brianna could be. Bode just wasn't the type to speak ill of others. "Actually haven't spoken to her in a little while," he realized with a frown, feeling like a terrible friend for not checking in. "But I did make a new friend. Laura. She's nice. A little guarded, maybe." Re: Not speaking ill of others. Laura had actually treated him poorly on a few occasions. "She's part of the reason I want to help at Open Arms." He also admittedly needed more friends.
"Yeah... I noticed that on the network. That you've been talking to her." Aubrey took a deep breath, pursing her lips. "She gorgeous, I can't deny that... but be careful, ok? She's dangerous. She's been through a lot, and I feel for her... but I love you and gotta look out for you."
"I'll be okay," he promised. He was more concerned that Laura would do something to hurt herself rather than what she was physically capable of doing to him. "She's a good person. She means well, but she's... not in a good place, is all."
"Well, I can't say anything there." Aubrey sighed, giving him a sweet smile. "You have a way of taking broken things and helping them feel whole again. I'm proof of that. You and Aurora... I'm 110% convinced that I wouldn't be alive right now if I hadn't met you both."
Bode blushed. "I feel like we just helped you get to where you needed to be." Bode smiled. He and Aurora were both very modest people, which was an admirable trait to have. "And hey, I think it goes without saying that we're both fond of you too."
"Well, I mean considering the things I do to that girl, she better be fond of me." Aubrey said, purposely giving him that visual to be a brat. "Seriously though... this world is a better place for having you in it. I've always thought that, and I always will."
Bode narrowed his eyes. She really was a brat sometimes. "Thank you." He also knew when to take a compliment. He gave Aubrey's hand a brief squeeze. "I really just hope that I can make a difference here. And make a life here."
"You will. On both counts." Aubrey told him, squeezing his hand right back. While she still had her wild side, she really had matured a lot since they first met. "Someone as wonderful as you... I refuse to believe you'll have anything but the best in life."
