"Wow".
Laura Hollis considered herself a very intelligent young woman. One with quite a good vocabulary, thanksabunch. So once she's had a chance to decompress a bit and think back to her first few hours on Galador? She'll likely be more than a bit embarrassed over how many damn times she said the word 'wow' in that time.
Still... could one really blame her? Sure, in her world she was acutely aware of things like vampires (Hello! Dating one...), gods, alternate realities, and even terrifyingly gigantic anglerfish, but this? Other planets? Superheroes? Jedi? Doctor Who? All of it real and walking around like no big deal? The only reason she didn't have a pretty incredible meltdown already was because of the presence of Queen Bea Wilson, who Nyx had called the moment she realized who this girl was.
Bea had been super helpful, immediately telling her that Carmilla was already here, and offering to track her down. Sure, she'd also given Laura a firm-but-playful smack on the ass and made a few comments she was sure she'd never hear outside of a dirty movie, but she was still very helpful in keeping the girl calm.
"So... you're a succubus? And a mutant. Like the X-Men." Laura said, trying to make sure she was getting it all right.
"Yep." Bea replied with a laugh, the two of them sitting on the large loveseat in the middle of the Welcome Center. "If you've ever heard of Deadpool, that crazy bastard's my dad. My mom is Queen Shiklah, ruler of the underworld."
"Impressive family line, isn't it," Carmilla said dryly, approaching at the tail end of the conversation. Still, with her vampiric hearing she'd heard most of it. She smiled(!) as soon as she saw Laura, but knew immediately that this Laura wasn't from the same timeline as her. This wasn't the same Laura who she'd spent five years as a human with; she wasn't the same Laura who she'd built a life with on Galador. Yet she was still Laura. Carmilla accepted that immediately. Time had always been a concern and now they suddenly had more of it. "There you are," she murmured.
"Annnnnnnd while I'm not the brightest bulb on the tree, even I know when it's time to amscray." Bea said, hopping to her feet with a glorious little bounce. "Remember, Laura. You need anything? You guys live in my kingdom. Holler and I'll be there in a heartbeat."
She grinned at Carm, giving her a quick smooch on the cheek. "Congrats, pumpkin. Looks like you just got what Em's bodyguard would literally murder people for. Enjoy it."
"Hm. Thanks, Bea," Carm murmured, accepting the kiss and giving the Queen what amounted to a grateful smile. Even as Bea made her exit, Carmilla's eyes never left Laura. She'd had a habit of watching her almost from the start. "Soooo..." She moved over to Laura with catlike grace and took the seat that Bea had vacated. "I guess if you have questions now's the time to ask them, Creampuff."
"I have about a million of them..." Laura admitted, wide-eyed and clearly forcing herself not to flail a bit. Bea really was apparently what had been keeping her calm. "But right now? Just confirm for me that we're together, that you're gonna be by my side through all this... and I think I'll be alright until we get home." A beat, then, "Do we seriously live in a monster kingdom? That sounds like the coolest but most terrifying thing ever."
Carm couldn't help it but break out into a huge grin then. "Oh, you don't even know the half of it, sweetheart." She almost started to brag about the people that she'd met and the things that she'd seen and caught herself with a brief chuckle. There was enough time for that. "As for the other thing?" She tentatively reached for Laura's hand, understanding now at what point in time that she'd come from. "Only place I'm going to be is by your side."
"You know? That's uncanny... I was thinking the exact same thing." Laura said wryly, that bright smile firmly in place. "How long have you been here, Carm? I mean... the Queen not only knew who I was as soon as they told her my name, but she looked pret-ty cozy with you."
"Is that jealousy I'm detecting, Hollis?" Carmilla asked with an amused smirk. She shook her head. Bea had certainly offered to have sex with her on more than one occasion, but nothing had ever eventuated there. Carm's head had been too full of Laura. "I've been here... three years now." She paused briefly. Did she tell Laura the whole truth? "You were here for most of it. Until you weren't."
"I wanna act shocked there... but I had started to figure as much." Laura sighed, giving an adorable little pout as she thought. "Two people have already acted like they either knew me or knew OF me, and considering what I've heard about how this place works... I figured some version of me had already been here." Backtracking a moment, she blinked as something hit her. "Three years? So am I right in assuming the queen has been one of your 'study buddies' during that time? No judgement. I know I haven't been here the whole time... and she is really cute."
Carmilla shook her head. "It's only ever been you." She did have one reckless moment of wanting to sink her teeth into someone. She threatened with bluster, but ultimately didn't follow through.
"Oh thank goodness." Laura laughed, exhaling deeply. She wouldn't have been upset at Carmilla... but good gracious was she glad the girl hadn't strayed. "So we're... really here to stay, huh?" She asked, trying still to wrap her head around all of it. She really didn't think anything else could surprise her at this point, but the world had ways of proving her wrong.
"Mmhm. For as long as you like... or until the gem deems it necessary to send you home." Not that Carmilla was bitter about Laura leaving previously, it was just a possibility that they couldn't rule out. "Did you want me to play tour guide, or have you had enough excitement for one day?"
"Mmm. Call it a hunch? But I don't think I'm gonna be ever leaving you again, Ms. Snarkypants." Laura told her with a smirk, that adorable twinkle in her eye that practically dared you to try disagreeing with her. "And I think I'd like to see where we live. And have you catch me up on everything I need to know."
"Well alright then," Carmilla murmured. She stood, then helped Laura to her feet as well. Time makes fools of us all, she thought as she gazed at Laura. "We'll have to get you some coffee first. Could take a while."
"Hm. A lot of time with you, and coffee during it..." Laura gave an exaggerated 'deep in thought' look, before grinning. "Sounds like a perfect day! Especially if there's some kisses mixed in."
"That sounds like a contender for 'best day ever'," Carmilla agreed dryly. She held Laura's gaze, then decided to get a start on those kisses, feeling as though this world was a much brighter place with Laura Hollis back in it.
