Faye Brown and Katie Prescott sit across from one another in a booth at The End Zone in Freedomtown. Dressed in a black leather jacket covering a black shirt with a The Misfits logo across her chest, black jeans, and a dark pair of combat boots, Brown has her head buried in her arms that sit crossed on the table. Her right hand clutches a full glass of Absolut, neat. It's not the first time that glass has been filled. The former Montes, dressed in her work uniform (as she's still on the clock technically), simply looks to Faye as she awkwardly sips a mug of coffee. Katie has never really been good at having to comfort someone going through relationship-based depression. Given she just got married herself and is fresh off a honeymoon, it's especially difficult right now for her to really empathize with the downtrodden musician's plight. The two have been sitting in that booth for a lengthy period of time by now.
"At least she didn't say no." Prescott tells Brown as she sat down her mug. Faye simply doesn't respond. She doesn't even so much as twitch.
"The Bills beat the Patriots, too. I'm glad a team you like is around and thriving." Katie's monologue is interrupted by a rather obvious sniffle from Faye. Brown moves her glass of alcohol away as Katie scoots to beside her. Prescott places an arm around Brown, trying her best to comfort her, though that seems to hardly work.
"Katie, I don't know what to do... what I did wrong." Faye shakily says to her waitress friend.
"There's nothing you can do." Katie immediately responds. She's been here before.
"Plus, you really put her on the spot. You knew she wasn't looking for a relationship, right?"
"I thought I could change that. I really did... I really thought I could capture that lightning in a bott--"
"OK, OK, Faye, listen... if we could all change peoples' minds to better fit our whims, do you honestly think I'd be happier here than I was where I came from?" Katie's tone is fairly calm and soothing, though with enough authority to let Faye know "this is how it is." Faye just shakes her head no as tears start to fall.
"That's because I couldn't change peoples' minds about me no matter what I did. I was miserable when I was where I came from for that. Shit, Faye, I still... I still have an inferiority complex because of that. I'm still far more depressed than I ever was before wrestling. I'm still afraid that everyone I've met here is going to leave me for reasons I can't explain or do anything about. There are parts of me that know for a fact they won't, but there are just as many parts of me that are convinced that all history does is repeat itself over and over again. And god damn it Faye, I can see it in your face and the way you present yourself on the network: you're far more like me than you realize. You're just too stubborn to admit it." Katie releases Faye from her hug, as her tone had become a lot less calm and a lot less soothing throughout her speech.
"I know it's not what you wanted to hear, and I understand that it's not very comforting, but it's what you need to hear right now. It's not your fault that Rhi doesn't want a relationship, it's your fault that you thought you could have one with her in spite of knowing that. It's like leading a horse that isn't thirsty to water, only to submerge it's head in the creek. Sure, the horse chooses not to drink and that's not your fault, but you're still forcing it to try and drink, which scares it from wanting water again unless you're not around. My advice to you is always let the horse decide when it wants water. Let Rhi finally want to date around, and try to pursue her again then with more subtlety." Katie breathes a bit as Faye sniffles again.
"I'm gonna go back to work, now. OK? I'm still on the clock. If you need a refill, please do not hesitate to ask anyone here. I'll see you later." With that, Katie gets up from the booth to go back to work. Faye never looked up at Katie. She never even so much as met her eyes with the waitress's. Only now does she decide to down the entire glass of Absolut.
