Stay as Long as You Need
Who: Ellie and Kat
Where: Ellie's Room
When: After Six's vanishing
What: Ellie comforting Kat
Rating: Low
Status: Closed; Complete
Kat had been in possibly the worst emotional place of her life recently. Losing Alisha, losing Six, and then on top of everything, losing Rocket to his own breakdown... Kat felt as though her entire world was crumbling around her.
Far from her usual chatty, snarky self, the tiny Avenger lay on Ellie's bed in just a huge, oversized Ghost tee, curled in a ball and sniffling. She had no idea what to do, or how to move forward now.
Ellie entered the room and quietly gazed at Kat. She'd never seen her girlfriend so upset. While Ellie wanted to offer words of comfort she wasn't entirely sure where to start. So instead she put on one of Kat's favorite albums, stripped off her clothes (except for her tee and boyleg panties) and joined her on the bed. The words would come when they needed to, but for now she simply held her. Kissed her forehead, her cheeks, her lips. Her way of saying I'm here. You're not alone.
Kat curled into Ellie tightly, as if clinging for dear life, before finally squeaking one short but heartbreaking sentence: "....please don't ever leave me..." Ellie felt like all she had left in the world, and it terrified her on so many levels.
"I'm not going anywhere," Ellie promised in a whisper. She brushed a hand over Kat's hair soothingly, then wrapped her arms around her to give her a loving squeeze. "Not ever."
"I don't know what to do..." Kat murmured, clinging adorably to the other girl. This really was a change of roles for them... typically Ellie was the one needing the comfort, and Kat the strong one. My, how times change, hm? "I never even got to really tell her how much she meant to me. What if she didn't know?"
It was true that Ellie tended to break down more often than Kat and those were issues that she still needed to deal with, but as soon as Kat needed her she was there for her. That was the good thing about them. They could always be the others strength when they were lacking.
"She knows," Ellie murmured in reply, keeping her voice and actions soft and intimate. "She knows that you love her. And she loves you and is so so proud of you."
"One day, we're gonna be married. And raise a kid. And make sure they never, ever have to have even the tiniest of doubts about any of this." Kat told her, moving her head a bit so she could sweetly kiss at Ellie's neck. "You're everything to me."
Ellie's eyelids fluttered closed and she relaxed more deeply into Kat's embrace. "I didn't think it was possible to love someone even half as much as I love you," she told her. She opened her eyes and held Kat's gaze. "I know that things are rough right now, but we'll get through it together. Okay?"
"Promise?" Kat sniffled, seeming more like the kid she still was than she ever had. This wasn't a genius inventor, or a tiny superhero right here: this was a sad, scared child who missed her mother.
Ellie nodded and gently stroked Kat's hair. "Promise." She may have had a brief moment of panic when they'd first gotten together, but she was all-in now. She wasn't going anywhere. She kissed Kat's forehead.
"If Juliet and Sawyer are ok with it... do you mind if I stay with you guys for a while? I just... this is a family. I need that." She said, pausing only to place a soft, lingering kiss on Ellie's lips.
"You stay as long as you need," Ellie murmured, keeping the kiss tender as she cupped Kat's cheek. "They'll be okay with it." Her adoptive parents really did just adore Kat. Ellie doubted they'd say no.
