Where: Their Home
When: Following this post and prior to this post
What: Talking through some issues
Rating: PG-13 (Mention of sexual activities)
Status: Closed; Complete
Due to severe trauma in her childhood, Caitlyn's mind, for lack of a better word, split. She'd been a whole person once, but now--now she had what she called 'Alters'. Alternate personalities that existed in her mind as a way to help deal with that trauma. Over the years these Alters would only appear in moments of heightened stress and anxiety; her mind's way of protecting itself. While that trauma had been uncovered and handled delicately years ago there wasn't exactly a 'cure' for Dissociative Identity Disorder. Sure, she could go for long periods without transitioning to one of her Alters, but they'd always be there. They'd always be a part of her. And lately... lately they just decided to appear without any provocation.
Which was a long-winded way of explaining Todd's presence in the Hanson's backyard. He'd gotten hold of Jodi on the network and asked her to come home so he could talk to her about the garden, but that was a partial truth. It was the whole yard that he wanted to talk about. And their daughter, Dany. As well as what the future might hold for the family. Right now, though, all 6'4" of him was working on building a raised garden bed near the back door. He'd already constructed the bed itself (4-foot wide by 12-foot long) and was in the process of filling it full of soil. He was dressed in work boots, jeans and a white sleeveless shirt (which was covered in patches of dirt) and was sweating from all the exertion. His exposed shoulders had patches of sunburnt pink in places that he hadn't reached when he put sunscreen on. He also had some Stone Temple Pilots playing in the background.
Bless her, while Jodi tended to be very sensitive and cautious with Caitlyn's DID, sometimes? Like now? She had to step back and just appreciate the god-given scenery. Oh, yeah. And the yard wasn't looking bad either. She'd changed into denim shorts and a form-fitting black tank with the word "NERD" written across the chest, and was just.... quietly watching. Hey, it was still Caitlyn, ok? She could appreciate the woman's shape shifting abilities.
Rather than use the wheelbarrow, Todd easily lifted a 40 pound bag of garden soil and hefted it over his shoulder like it weighed nothing, carried it over to the garden bed and ripped open one end to tip the soil inside the garden bed. Once done, he dropped the empty bag to the ground and wiped the sweat from his brow with his forearm. When he turned and spotted Jodi the look of intense concentration on his face was replaced with a huge smile. "There you are."
"Don't rush on my account..." Jodi said with a dimpled grin, clearly enjoying the show and not really caring if it was obvious. "For the record, it's fucking ridiculous how hot you are right now. So anyway.... what's up?"
Todd did stop, if only for a moment, and wiped the dirt on his palms onto his jeans before making his way over to her. It was true that he wasn't exactly on Team Jodi when they'd first met, but that wasn't the case now. The sun rose and set with Jodi Hanson. Color flushed his cheeks at the compliment, although he'd blame it on the exercise if she pointed it out. "New garden," he told her, as if that wasn't entirely obvious. "Maybe a new shed, too, if I have enough time today." He made no attempt at hiding the fact that he was checking her out in that outfit. "Maybe a dog house or a chicken coop next time, if you're up for it."
So maybe she was feeling playful. Maybe she was just in a horny mood. Hell, maybe she just enjoyed being a bitch. Either way, she purposely changed position so that she leaned against the fence almost in a bent-over position, jutting her rear out a bit. "I'd be... "up" for it." She said, the tip of her tongue poking out playfully. "Seriously, I've been thinking of either getting us a puppy, or maybe some cool pet native to Galador."
Todd grunted and watched her, mindful that he could look but not touch. Jodi was making it hard to stick to that rule, though. His eyes lingered on her posterior. "A native pet could be interesting," he agreed. With Dany out of the house for so long he'd struggled to find things to fill his time with. They all had. But they were making up for it now. "Preferably one that doesn't turn into a monster if we feed it after midnight."
"Right. No Mogwai if they exist here. Got it." Jodi said, nodding with a straight face. "Thanks for all the hard work out here, though. Seriously. It looks great so far." Something occurred to her then, and she wondered if this had something to do with the sudden rise in appearances from these other personalities. "Todd, honey? You know you can tell me anything. Especially if it helps me help Caiti. When I mentioned to her that Betsy asked us for Dany's hand in marriage... she didn't seem to react well to it. Is there anything I can do to help? I mean, the girl treats Dany like gold."
Spell broken momentarily, his posture stiffened and he looked away. Clearly she'd hit a touchy subject, although he'd meant to tell her--he just wanted to get to it in his own time. Maybe appreciate that view a little more. "You're gonna think it's stupid," he rumbled, eyes still downcast.
"Oh, for.... dude." Jodi grumbled, the tone of it almost comical as she literally facepalmed. "Sixteen. I was sixteen years old when I met you. In all that time, when have I ever thought your opinion on anything was stupid? Now stop being a dumbass and talk to me."
He kept his eyes downcast, but it was clear in the clench of his jaw that he was upset. "The day that she gets married is the day that she stops being my little girl. She won't need me to protect her or guide her anymore." He finally looked over at Jodi, his body quivering with distress, his eyes a mixture of frightened, hurt and angry. "I just want to... prolong it for as long as possible. Is that so bad?"
"No. Of course it isn't." Jodi sighed, walking over to wrap her arms around this big, muscular man that she knew, deep inside, was still her sweet, vulnerable wife. "I feel the same way. More than you know, actually. I just... also know that if my mom had stood in our way, things would be a lot different. And we were technically even younger than Dany is now. We need to put our own insecurities aside and do what's best for our child."
Todd sighed and nodded, accepting the comfort by wrapping his arms around Jodi and holding her. "It's infuriating how often you're right," he rumbled, breathing in her scent. He knew that they needed to work on their communication skills, but Jodi... well, she always had a logical head on her shoulders. She could always weather any storm. He brushed a hand over her hair, smoothing it back. "You think that I'd be used to that by now."
"Naaaah. We have our strengths and weaknesses. Always have." Jodi laughed, reaching up to ruffle his hair. "Caiti's the logical, responsible one. I'm the impulsive, still-slightly-immature one. But then where Caiti shuts down and panics, somehow I manage to go into logic-mode. It's why we're so perfect together. Each of use makes up for the other's weaknesses with our own strengths."
Todd nodded and gave Jodi a possessive squeeze before letting her go, lest her get too worked up having her body pressed so tightly to his. "I think that you're just perfect." He'd decided that a long time ago, although he'd never expressly said it to her face. He cleared his throat. "Help me with the garden?"
"Shame you can't communicate with Caiti right now..." Jodi said, before playfully dropping the bomb. "If she said it was ok, you could help me with my garden..." Oh, the teasing bitch!
Todd narrowed his eyes at her. "I'm gonna have a really bad case of blue balls tonight, aren't I," he grumbled, really wishing that Caitlyn and Jodi had had that conversation already. Still. The rules were in place for a reason, so he'd obey them. "You do love to tease me."
"Ya might need to go yank one out before letting Caiti take the wheel again, sweetheart." She said with a lazy little grin, winking. "And yes, you don't need to say it: I'm evil."
"I wouldn't have you any other way," Todd replied with a broad grin. As for Caitlyn, well... she'd be back by morning. He still had some work to do here.
The following morning...
While Jodi had let Todd sleep beside her in bed the night before, Caitlyn was the one to wake up beside her in the morning. She covered a hand over her eyes to ward off the ambient light in the room as she let out a fluttering purring sound, her legs twisting underneath her. "Rrr?" She questioned, rolling onto her back and slowly blinking her eyes open. Why was she topless and wearing men's briefs that were frankly far too big for her slender frame? Why did it feel like she'd fallen asleep in a wet patch in the middle of the bed? Why did her body ache everywhere? And why was she suddenly horny as fuck? "Why does everything hurt?" She sleepily grumbled.
Jodi stirred from her sleep, giving a sleepy (yet hilariously triumphant) little grin. She was wearing a pair of sexy panties and a matching bra... even though she typically slept nude. "Oh, that would be because Todd decided to take your bod for a spin last night. And I decided to make him pay for it."
"'Look, but don't touch'?" Caitlyn asked with an amused giggle. Oh, Jodi could be the devil sometimes. Caitlyn curled onto her side facing Jodi, crossing her legs with a groan. "Well, that explains the mood I woke up in." Typically, Caitlyn had no memory when one of the Alters took control, but she had some residual feelings of what they'd been through with increasing frequency. "Also... the wet patch." She took in Jodi's outfit with a sexy little purr. "Although that part I don't blame him for. Hi."
"Yeah... poor Todd. I was in an evil mood and the poor bastard happened to be there. Pretty sure he fapped himself to sleep." Jodi replied, extremely proud of herself, thank you. "Missed you, doofus."
"You are a Mean Girl, Jodi Hanson," Caitlyn purred. She rested her hand on Jodi's neck and traced her thumb over her jaw, just... taking a moment to gaze at her. "I'm here," she assured her. Although she did have to wonder: "How're you?"
"Well, it's always stressful when one of the Alters shows up." She admitted, never one to lie or sugar-coat anything. "Mostly because generally, if they're here? Something scared you away. But we actually talked about stuff... and Dany especially."
Caitlyn stilled and averted her gaze briefly. Sometimes she really wished that she was privy to what the Alters said or did. Lately, like now for example, she had residual feelings from them after she'd transitioned back to herself, but that was the extent of it. She nodded and started lightly playing with Jodi's hair. "What did he say?"
"Basically? That you feel the same way I do. You're afraid Dany won't be our little girl anymore." Jodi said, rolling in a little to rest her forehead against her wife's. "We just dealt with it in different ways. Problem is... neither of us seemed to realize that she's nineteen now. Whether she gets married or not, she's still not a little girl anymore."
"No, she isn't," Caitlyn agreed. Empty nest syndrome had taken a while to catch up to them, since Dany had never actually lived in their home on Galador. Maybe the fact that there wasn't a transition had hit them harder than they realized. Caitlyn continued lightly toying with Jodi's hair. "What do we do now?"
"As Princess Bea likes to say? We pull on our big girl pants and do the right thing. We tell Betsy she has our blessing." Jodi told her, lightly kissing her on the lips. "And we let our baby make a life and a family of her own. Especially now that things are finally great between us again."
Caitlyn purred after that kiss. "We are in a good place, aren't we?" She murmured. Moving to Galador had been an adjustment for both of them and there'd been a few hiccups along the way, but now that they'd found their new normal? Things were perfect.
"We really are. I love you, Caiti. As much, if not more, than I did all those years ago." Jodi told her, taking a silent moment to appreciate the redhead's natural beauty.
"I love you too, Jodi. More'n all the stars in the sky," Caitlyn murmured, tracing her fingertips down Jodi's bare arm. "I know that our lives together have... had their moments, but we're stronger for it." She blushed and ducked her head briefly, in the same shy way she did when they first met. "Would you mind if we stayed here a little longer?"
"I like the sound of that." Jodi told her, playfully nipping the tip of Caitlyn's nose. "Any time with you is something to treasure."
Caitlyn gazed at her. Most marriages wouldn't have survived what they'd been through and yet... here they were. Over two decades later. "How'd I get so lucky, hm?" She asked softly.
"Oh, that's an easy one." Jodi said with a laugh. "You were able to look at a bratty, obnoxious kid and see what she could be."
Caitlyn laughed. "Sweetie, you were never bratty or obnoxious." Actually, she really was. Caitlyn didn't seem to think so, though. Never did. "You were always perfectly you."
