My so-called best friend from home came back and even after remembering that he had already been here before, he acted surprised that I was in a relationship.

... And he was from a good year later, and it seemed he was still looking for me. I had been kidnapped a bit before I came here.

Is it possible that he doesn't remember everything from when he was here before? Like he's selectively forgetting that he was a huge asshole to me and shut me out after he found out that he lost his chance with me... that he never actually had.
