Classes had ended for Kassie at 2:30 that day. She had very little homework that she needed to have finished before heading to her classes the next morning. Right now, she was working on a personal project. It was coming close to her birthday, which with the time travel thing that the gems had been doing, it was going to be her actual day of birth, as well. She was the first of Addy's children, but the only one that she originally had with Mack. Kassie couldn't help but wonder if the future as all of the future kids knew it was going to remain intact, or would little things be changing here and there, simply due to their presence? Not so far. She knew that she wasn't the first to be born since coming back to the past, but there was just something about the future history of her own family that just made Kassie wonder. Or were they misinformed about why exactly Jordan and their younger sibling had different fathers than Kassie?
She found a good place to take a break while working on something for one of her mother's parts. Despite knowing all along that Addy was a cyborg before having her before, being around for it still made her nervous. So loving her mother as much as she did, Kassie was always working on spare parts and upgrades to keep her mother in the best health. She only washed her hands before locking up the workshop and walking outside in her coveralls. She unbuttoned it to her waist but otherwise kept it on because it was still winter. She saw a few of those annoying little cherubs from the year before and shook her head. She hadn't really gotten anything from them the year before, so she wasn't expecting it when an arrow hit her in the shoulder.
Without her knowing, the scenery around her changed a bit, along with what she was wearing. The grease from her face was magically removed, as well. The intro of the song played on as she was now in a pair of faded jeans and a sequinned top. A leather biker jacket finished her ensemble as her thoughts were coming out of her mouth in the form of song, all while she was just simply walking to the Crashdown to eat in her mind.
"I don't know where I'm going
But, I sure know where I've been
Hanging on the promises in songs of yesterday
And I've made up my mind
I ain't wasting no more time.
Though I keep searching for an answer
I never seem to find what I'm looking for
Oh Lord, I pray you give me strength to carry on," the words flowed out of her perfectly as she danced along, like as if she was in a music video.
"Cause I know what it means
To walk along the lonely street of dreams," she did a twirl around a lampost before going immediately into the first chorus.
"Here I go again on my own
Going down the only road I've ever known
Like a drifter, I was born to walk alone
And I've made up my mind
I ain't wasting no more time," she stopped in her tracks, looking down, getting somber before moving onto the second verse.
"I'm just another heart in need of rescue.
Waiting on love's sweet charity,
An' I'm gonna hold on for the rest of my days
Cause I know what it means
To walk along the lonely street of dreams," she skipped along as she gained backup dancers and an all-female backup band following her.
"Here I go again on my own.
Going down the only road I've ever known.
Like a drifter, I was born to walk alone.
And I've made up my mind
I ain't wasting no more time," she stopped, raising a hand up to the air before singing the bridge.
"But, here I go again
Here I go again
Here I go again
Here I go..."
The band backed off as the dancers joined her for a quick number. The loneliness was beyond apparent in Kassie's eyes and growing increasingly as the song came back for a final chorus...
"And I've made up my mind
I ain't wasting no more time
Here I go again on my own
Going down the only road I've ever known
Like a drifter, I was born to walk alone
And I've made up my mind
I ain't wasting no more time
Here I go again..."
And just like as if it never happened, Kassie was back in her coveralls with a greasy face. The backup musicians and dancers went on about their day as if nothing happened. She looked up to see a familiar face and smiled, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Oh... hey," she blushed a little, not expecting to see this person when she was in such a state.
