"Well that is a tragedy. You should have people cook for you more often. Guess I'll have to take up that mantle," he joked. "I'm sure I would have loved her. I wish I could have met her." Anything was possible here, he supposed, but he didn't want to get Sookie's hopes up like that.
"Mostly myself. I wasn't exactly much ready to settle down," he admitted. He snorted when she asked if he had any surprises like knowing magic. "I know a little. Came with the Watcher territory. I have a lot more knowledge than ability, though. Pretty sure I couldn't levitate a piece of paper if I tried." He'd cast a few spells here and there, but they'd been things that basically anybody with the right book could do. He had no real innate magical ability any more so than any other person naturally did.
"I love you, too, Sookie." It had caught him a little by surprise when she first said it to him, but it had been really easy to say it back to her. Did things move fast for them? Sure. But it felt right for him when nothing quite had before. Something about Sookie was completely different from anyone he had ever met before. It almost felt like Fate when they were drawn together like they were.
Maybe it was silly, but Matthew did believe in the idea of soulmates. He was a romantic at heart for having been such a cad for so many years. Being here with Sookie now, he felt like he'd found his finally.
