Who: Billy, Nessie, open to Tia, Erin, Cassie to jump in
What: Shopping trip
When: June 1 or 2
Where: Mall
Nessie wasn't sure her parents would allow her to hang out with Billy alone since he was an older guy and so she had promised that she would be in a public shopping center, and she also embellished a little and said that her friends would be meeting them later that afternoon. She hadn't exactly invited her friends but she had told them that she would be at the mall with Billy so that they knew where she was. And asked them to meet for lunch later that day. But first she kind of wanted to see Billy alone for a bit. She had a little crush on him and was curious if he reciprocated her first ever real crush.
She was dropped off at the mall and went inside the main entrance and then stopped by a bench and looked around to see if Billy had arrived yet. She nervously twirled her hair on her finger while she waited.
Billy was trying to get out more and make more friends and Nessie was a good person, and someone he was enjoying talking to. And he had promised that he would play her the song she had inspired, so he wanted to do that, too. After letting his new foster family know about his destination, he headed off, flying to near the mall, then changing back to himself. He was wearing a jeans jackets, jeans, a red t-shirt, and red suede shoes. He was an oddball when it came to fashion, really.
He liked talking to Nessie and so he hoped hanging out with her would be cool. He figured if things went poorly, they would each head their separate ways. At the mall, he attracted some attention as he wandered with his guitar out and slung around his neck, fingers strumming the instrument idly. When he spotted Nessie by a bench, he headed for her, his fingers finding chords a little louder as he did so.
"Nessie! Hey! "
Nessie wore typical teenage clothing to blend in; jeans, a cute top, some cute sandals. She had brushed her hair neatly smoothly down her back wanting him to notice her as more than some little girl. After all she would be in high school in the fall. A real school. She couldn't wait and this was her first big social outing with a boy, other than when she and her friends happened to run into Tia's brother at places which hardly counted since he dated Erin.
She noticed him right away when he walked in with his guitar around his shoulder. Then she realized he was making those sounds she heard. The music. It was nice. It reminded her of her family when they played music together. She waved, blushed, and tried to be cool. He was her friend. She didn't want to make this awkward. But in person her crush only grew. "Hi Billy." She said quietly as he got closer, and she stood before him, about to go for a hug then backtracked, because they weren't there yet. That only made it more awkward as she stumbled and stood up straighter.
Billy smiled at her, moving toward her at an ambling kind of walk, and smiling warmly. She seemed like a nice person, and cute, and he liked talking to her. He hoped they could be really good friends. "Hey, Nessie. You look nice. How are you doing? I hope you haven't been waiting long?" His grin was warm as he moved to her side, glancing around the mall area and then back at her.
"I'm still new to the area and haven't been to this mall before, is it a cool one?"
"It's nice to finally meet you." She added. Then went on when he said she looked nice. He was probably just being polite anyway. "Thank you." She said to that. "I am good." She went on.
Then she nodded. "I like this mall. I usually come walk around with my mom, though." She told him. "I know you haven't seen the mall but have you been getting around ok and seeing what our home has to offer?" She asked, genuinely.
"I've been enjoying this place a lot. The world seems nice, and there are a lot of nice people, including the family that has taken me in. Its fun, and I am enjoying it, even if I do miss my other family from back home sometime." He smiled at her a little sadly. It was a good place, but he missed his sister, and his extended Marvel 'family'. He wondered how they were all doing now.
"I'm working and going to school, and just having a quiet time, so far."
"Which family ended up taking you in? I wonder if I will recognize the name. I don't know a lot of people but I do know a few." Nessie asked. She nodded, frowning. "I know the feeling. I was born here so I don't know any of my family that isn't here already but still I feel like there is a giant hole in me and I can feel those few people missing." She told him.
"So you got into that school then? I forgot which one you were trying to get into?" She admitted glancing down, shyly.
"Kara Danvers and her family did." Billy smiled as he nodded to her. He gently patted her shoulder. "Maybe someday they will come here." Billy grins. "Then we could show them around together."
"I'm just in a normal school now. Nothing special. Probably going to stay in it until time for college."
Nessie shook her head. "Never heard the name but that doesn't mean I have never seen them before and just don't know the name." She said casually. She grinned when he touched her shoulder. "That would be nice. I would like that." Then she went on to explain herself. "I mean, my dad and my Jacob did come for a bit, but then disappeared again. I never really got to know them." She said, sighing, in what little memories she has of them. "But most of the rest of my family is here thank goodness. Her eyes widened. "I finally get to try a real school for high school this year. No more home schooling. So, how is it?" She asked as they walked.
Billy nodded as he smiled at her. She seemed nice, and he was glad he had had a chance to meet her and start making friends with her. Despite the fact that she seemed young, she also seemed really smart. He listened to her and nodded, understanding. "I haven't seen my real mom and dad in years. I don't know if I would even know them, now."
As they walked, he shrugged. "It is quiet. Kind of... most of th students natives, with just some imported types like us. And they are all nice, so far." He was waiting to encounter the not so nice types. There were always some,
She gave him a sympathetic look and noises understanding. “Im sorry that you grew up with out your parents. But you did grow up with a family you said, right?” She asked, frowning.
“But in the fall you won’t be new anymore so you’ll fit in better. It’s always hard being the new kid. At least I assume it is.” She admitted, since this would be her first year in a real school too.
"Its okay. Its just been a long time. Nowadays, I mostly am on my own, before I was here, anyway." He had family, but not like that. He smiles at her. "I like that idea. And I will have you as a friend to hang with sometimes."
She was calming and kind, and he was enjoying himself. "Want anything to drink or eat? My treat." Having a job helped when you wanted to make hanging out cool.
“Well yes now you have me. As a friend I mean.” She rambled, “And I think you’ll like my friends too. When they get here.” She added quickly shyly.
She shook her head and gulped. “Maybe we could um look for something to wear to a dance instead. I could use a boys opinion, since this is my first school dance and all.” She didn’t want to admit out loud to him that she didn’t care much for human food. She often drank blood for nourishment.
“Because um speaking of the dance, well, um,” she started and glanced down and around and anywhere but at him as she walked and finished her sentence. “Would you want to go to the multi school end of the year dance with me?” She mumbled still not looking at him.
"I'm sure we will get along. You are awesome and they will likely be awesome too." Billy nods, and smiles warmly at her. She seems cool!
He blinks, then nods. "I could help, sure? I don't know how good my opinion is?" He nods, then freezes as she asks him out, and stares. His cheeks go violent purple, and he looks down. "I--- you--- that is... I am not good at people, or crowds, or people in crowds and loud noises and... I am sorry? I do not think me and a dance is a good idea. I am sorry!" He flails with his hands as he apologizes.
She giggled and she wasn’t even a giggler. “Yes, Tony and Tia are brother and sister and then there is Erin and Cassie.” She told him their names.
She blushed. “Well maybe with two of us who have no idea what we are doing it will cancel each other out.” Nessie suggested. She nodded and gulped and continued to look down. “Oh ok. Well if you change your mind it wouldn’t be like an actual date. You might meet even more people. Tia might be going too. If I convince her and I know Erin and Tony are going. I am not sure about Cassie.” She admitted. She tried to be cool and not embarrassed to be rejected. “It’s a group thing mostly.” She rambles and just hoped that it would really be a group thing if she convinced him to say yes that is.
"That's really cool. Sounds like you have nice friends, like you." Billy sighed and gently poked her shoulder.
"I'm also new and... I would rather not start dates yet. I am sorry. Its not you, it is really not. You are one of the most incredible people I have ever met." He nodded. "I would rather be your friend, please?"
“Thank you.” She said shyly. “You’re very nice too.” She replied. “That’s ok. I understand. Well you and my other friends can all give me advice on what to wear at least. It’s my first dance ever.” She acted normal. Not showing she was hurt but she was a little but she also didn’t want to lose his friendship so she kept it casual.
"I'll be glad to help. I helped my sister Mary get ready for dances." He actually could make corsets, if he ever got the materials, but he figured that was something she would be more interested in when she was older.
"Thank you. You are very cool." He was glad she was taking it so well, and he was clueless. \
“I didn’t realize you had a sister. Is she older or younger?” She asked curiously. He would be right because Nessie was skinny enough, she didn’t need corsets yet though she had worn one once, and it had given her very mature curves.
Nessie smiles and blushed. “Thank you.” She was actually just used to everyone seeing her as a child. “You really are, too.”
Billy grinned at her and nodded. "Mary is older than me by a year." He missed Mary, and his cousin Freddie, a lot.
"Thank you. I'm not really good at hanging out with people, most of the time, but I'm enjoying this. "
“That’s not so bad. A year is good. So you were close growing up then?” She asked him.
“I don’t have a lot of friends either. Or I didn’t.” She admitted. “It’s nice to get together with a group like this. The girls and Tony should be here soon actually. Should we walk to the entrance and find them? And then start shopping so i don’t drag you into the same stores twice.”
"We actually each thought the other was dead for years. We were separated after our parents were killed. She was on the dig with them, because they were archaeologists, but I didn't go because I was sick, and all we heard form the states was that there was an accident and no survivors were found. She survived, but was in a coma for awhile and misnamed by the people who found her, and then adopted. Our house was burned in a fire at the same time, and so she thought I died in that by the time she came to the states. We didn't find each other until a couple of years ago."
Billy told her his story quietly. He hasn't told anyone else but Kara and her family this since he arrived. But he thinks she is cool, and can handle it.
Nessie listened intently stopping in her tracks and facing him. Her eyes widened in surprise but also that story sounded familiar. She couldn’t remember from where she had heard something like that but she had. Or maybe she has read it. “That has to be awful.” She said quietly. “To not know where or that the other even existed for so long. To not know you had family out there somewhere.” She added. She reached out to touch his arm and sighed. “I’m glad you’re safe here now. “Maybe someday your sister will appear here. A lot of people often do.” She said hopefully for his sake.
Billy blinked as she stopped and looked at him. "Thanks." He smiled softly. "You're a good friend." He nodded. She really was an amazing person. He didn't want to tell her how he had also lived on the streets for a few years. Maybe later. She was an awesome person and did not need that on her.
"That would be cool! She and I don't always get along, but she is family. " He nodded again. Mary always had good ideas, too.
Nessie blushed. “Thank you.” She repeated. “I’m glad I made a friend in you, too.” She said.
“At least you would have some family here too and maybe here you guys would get along.”
"Maybe so. Its not so bad to argue with family sometimes." He ginned and shrugged a little. Then he glanced around. "What's your favorite place here?" Billy was feeling bouncy and he smiiled brighter as he looked around.
“I look at it unconditional love arguing.” She told him. She shrugged. “I actually love the fountain in the entrance. I could sit and stare at it for hours. Is there anything particular you want to see in this mall?”
Billy laughed and nodded. "That makes sense to me." He felt himself feeling rather bubbly.
"I do need to do some shopping for gifts eventually, but right now, I am mostly just here to hang out with my friend." he poked her lightly, smiling again.
Nessie was proud that he agreed with what she said. She giggled. “Well then you’re in luck. We can just window shop for awhile until and if I find the perfect dress and if you see anything you would like for someone you need to buy for. Window shopping is my favorite sport.” She joked.
Truthfully she didn’t go to the mall often enough and when she did it was with her mom so she went into different stores then she assumed she would with friends.
