"You know that you're always welcome to visit on weekends," Morgan said as she lead the way through Mos Eisley. She liked to think that she had a good sense of direction, but this place was HUGE (and maybe a little dusty. Just a little).
"I know," Aurora replied. She'd been staying with Aubrey's family for a while now, but it was only ever a temporary thing. She'd been given a name and location of her guardian and Morgan had been kind enough to escort her there. "Thanks for coming with me."
"Well, I'm not going to leave you with a complete stranger without *meeting* them first." Morgan chuckled. Plus, she felt a little guilty for outsting Aurora from their home and wanted to make sure the girl was safe. "So, which one do you think it is?" There were more spaceships than she could count, honestly.
"I'm gonna go with that one," Aurora pointed towards a spaceship bigger than HOUSE.
"Whoa," they said in unison.
As if on cue, the boarding ramp to The Ghost opened, as Hera Syndulla walked halfway down it. With her green skin and twin head-tails, Hera was definitely unlike anything Morgan or Aurora had ever seen. She was beautiful, but in a far different way than either of them had seen. Taking off her work-gloves and setting them aside, she walked towards them, extending a hand to Morgan. "Hi. I'm Hera. And this..." she motioned towards the ship, "Is The Ghost. My pride and joy."
Of course, as she said that, an old orange and yellow astromech droid wheeled down the ramp, booping and beeping at her in a way that quite obviously sounded irritated.
"Yes, Chopper, even over you." She gave an apologetic look to the ladies. "Don't mind Chopper. He's always got a bit of an attitude."
"I've got a teenager at home, so trust me when I say I know *all* about attitude," Morgan replied, instantly giving Hera's hand a shake. The whole scene wasn't what Morgan pictured *at all*, but she took it in in stride. "I'm Morgan. And this little munchkin is Aurora." She gave Aurora a friendly half-hug. Despite wanting to separate Aubrey and Aurora she *did* like the girl.
"Pleasure to meet you, ma'am," Aurora said, offering Hera a hand to shake. She was still wide-eyed at the enormity of her ship, honestly. "I promise you don't have to worry about me at all."
"Considering my crew back home, I'm very used to dealing with children." Hera said with a smirk, to which Chopper beeped what sounded like a chuckle, before scooting away. She looked to Aurora, and shook her hand. "Pleasure's all mine, sweetheart. I think we're gonna get along just fine. If you wanna take a look around the ship, Chopper can show you where your room is. Make yourself at home... anything that's mine is yours too."
She looked at Morgan, giving a sad smile. "And don't worry... you don't have to act like this isn't giving you the creeps. I've been here for almost two years, and I have all of two friends that aren't from my world. I know my appearance is a little off-putting to most."
"Oh cool! Thanks!" Aurora replied before scampering off with a childlike glee. Dude, she was gonna live on a spaceship! Of course she was gonna explore! "Chopper! Wanna give a girl the grand tour?" Of course, she'd have *no* idea what he'd say, but decided fairly quickly that she was gonna learn.
"Not even," Morgan replied, shaking her head. Sure, it was her first time meeting a Twi'lek, but that wasn't the reason she was ogling. "You're the woman that took down that giant monster last month, right?" She smiled. "God, my wives would love to meet you."
".......really?" Hera asked, admittedly a bit stunned. That wasn't the reaction she was expecting at all. "Y-Yes... that's me. In my world I'm a General for the Rebel Alliance, and... while I'm here I'm Queen Irinia's personal pilot."
Talk about a résumé! "You are the single most impressive person I've ever met," Morgan decided. Sure, Rachelle might have something snarky to say about that, but fortunately she wasn't here! "And thank you. For what you did. We were... pretty close to it."
Was... was Hera blushing? Why yes. Yes she was. "You certainly know how to flatter someone, honey." She looked around, knowing that, to most, living on her ship was probably a little strange. "If you'd like, you're welcome here any time... even just to talk, or go over to the cantina for a drink."
Get away from my devil wives, Morgan thought but didn't dare say. Maybe once they got to know each other a little better she'd show her sense of humor more. "That sounds amazing, actually. I can't remember the last time that I did something like that."
"If it helps? Same here, darlin'." She laughed, shaking her head. "Aside from Her Majesty? I've made literally ONE friend in this place. Well... kind-of two? But one I dated briefly, and... it's just been mighty awkward since."
"Ooofh, yeah. That'd be awkward as hell." Thankfully Morgan didn't have quite the same issue. She still didn't feel completely comfortable around Skylar at times, knowing that she'd hooked up with Rachelle, but could at least count the fact that they were all on friendly terms now as a positive thing. "I've been," she paused, considering her words before just being completely honest, "I have what some people would consider an unconventional relationship. I have two wives and since arriving here I've mostly spent my time with them and/or our adopted daughter, Aubrey. Back home I wasn't exactly a social butterfly, but I'm starting to realize how much I've closed myself off from meeting people, making friends. I can't say for sure why that is, exactly. Maybe that's just who I am?" She mused.
"And that's the only person you ever need to be." Hera told her, having taken an almost immediate liking to Morgan. "And yeah... I blame myself for the awkwardness with Douglas. I knew I shouldn't have agreed to date him, but I did anyway, just to not feel alone. And that wasn't fair to him. Not when I know deep down I'm never going to date anyone."
"Why wouldn't you date anyone?" Morgan asked, out of curiosity and concern. She understood that some people weren't built for relationships and respected that, but she had to guess that there was another reason. "Do you have someone back home?"
"I.... did." She said, eyes misting up just a tiny bit. "When I was first brought here... I'd been with a man named Kanan Jarrus for.... wow. For quite a while. We weren't exactly dating, because the life we led didn't exactly lend itself to that luxury. But I loved him and he loved me. And then... suddenly I was here. And I felt so empty, so... incomplete without him at my side. But when it became apparent he wasn't going to show up here, I let myself try to start anew with Douglas. Big mistake." She felt ridiculous, answering a simple question with damn-near an autobiography, but come on... this poor woman hadn't had a chance to truly VENT to someone in a damn long time.
"While trying with him... the gem sent me back. And while I was back? I had no memory of ever being here. And I was back with Kanan and everything felt right. But then..." She almost lost her composure for a brief second, before steeling herself again. "He sacrificed his life to save me and the rest of our crew. Shortly after that... I was brought back here. Pregnant." She added, raising an eyebrow. "You can imagine how Douglas took that."
Morgan wasn't a big hugger, especially when it came to complete strangers, but she offered her arms open for one anyway, feeling like what Hera had just said lended itself to it. "I really don't know what to say." She knew that she'd be inconsolable if something ever happened to Neely or Rachelle.
Hera honestly didn't do a lot of hugging herself. But considering she'd never even had the chance to properly mourn the loss of Kanan, this was a blessing. She gently hugged the blonde, sighing. "At least I was able to salvage our friendship. I do adore Douglas. I just... my heart belongs to one person only. And every time I look at our little son, I see those mischievous eyes and think of him."
Morgan gave her a gentle squeeze in return. This was a strong woman, she decided. "What did you name your son?" She asked. Hell, she might even offer to babysit sometime (she was a sucker for babies, honestly).
"Jacen" Hera said, proudly. "And I can tell already... he's going to be a powerful Jedi just like his father. And he already loves being in the cockpit, just like me..."
"That sounds adorable." Good lord, Rachelle would probably cream her pants when she found out who Aurora would be staying with. "It sounds like Kanan is still with you, in a way." That was a small blessing.
"You have no idea just how right you are." Hera replied with a sad smile. Sometimes Jacen reminded her of Kanan so much it was actually painful. "Aurora is in good hands, for what it's worth. Ezra, Sabine, and myself... we're an odd bunch but we're family. Even Chopper's one of us."
Morgan nodded. "I believe you." She did. Truthfully, she felt that Aurora would be better living with another family, at least until she turned 18, then it was up to her what kind of life she wanted to live while they were here. However long that might turn out to be. "I can't thank you enough for allowing her into your life."
"She's so kind, and full of life..." Hera mused, with a lopsided smile. "Honestly, I think having her around will be good for me. Plus...." She added, extending a hand. "I'm... really glad to have made another friend here."
Morgan accepted her hand and gave it a shake. "Me too." Goddess knew that she needed more friends in her life and it felt like Hera did too.
