Despite driving her childe away so many months ago, and still not able to ask forgiveness for such an act, Deanna was surprised at Victoria's question. She guessed it came from a perspective of one who's 'lived' long enough in the shadows to know whom to trust about their new unlife, and not from maternal concern.
"If you'd have asked me two weeks ago," Deanna recounted, thinking upon her recent 'outing' to an enraged mob outside a tenement building, "I'd have been all for it. But the world's on its ear. Curfews, confusion, anger. Think about your own safety, is what I'm saying. Can you trust your mother, Star? Are you prepared to do whatever's necessary to protect yourself if she doesn't take it well?"
