A Little Bit of Conversation -- Suprisingly, No Action [12 Feb 2008|12:59am]
The University of Nevada's Las Vegas campus wasn't a concrete jungle, as some metropolitan colleges could be. In the daylight hours it was quite beautiful because its green spaces were filled with desert flora. There were gardens of flowering plants and cactus plants, and arbors built to support greenery that could climb. But those miniature parks that provided reclusive walking paths during the day had an unpleasant side effect. They were great hiding places for supernatural creatures at night.

The campus wasn't really Rhiannon's turf, but the morning paper had a story in it about a girl going missing two nights prior. She decided to scope it out and see if it was more than a typical college crime. Who knew. Maybe vampires had a thing for native plants of the Mohave.

With weapons hidden beneath her coat, she took a walk through the East Mall, the last place where the girl had been seen. She figured the police had already combed the place for clues, and investigating wasn't her bag, but less intelligent vamps occasionally returned to the scene of the crime.

Destiny came out of her night class, backpack slung over one shoulder. It was one of those classes she had to take in order to finish. She almost quit, but her advisor kept her going and found her some really kickass classes, so she didn't mind as much. It was a class about the supernatural - and it was almost laughable how the professor described vampires and demons as mythical.

It was one of the reasons the Slayer decided to patrol on campus. The unassuming college students would make fun of the creatures - Destiny guessed that's why a girl ended up dead. They might be supernatural, but their egos were incredibly fragile. She turned the corner and walked into the East Mall.

A familiar brunette stood at the other end. "Rhiannon!" Destiny waved like an idiot, completely forgetting her need for stealth.

With head lifting, Rhiannon caught sight of the other brunette. She raised a hand casually, hoping to deflect a little of the attention that was brought on them. Destiny's other classmates looked for the sound -- just human instinct -- then kept going on their way back to dorms and parked cars. "Hey," she said, approaching with her thumbs in her hip pockets and her coat winging out. "Long time, no see." Rhiannon smiled, which she would've done anyway for Destiny, though it came a little easier tonight. She was in an easy mood.

Rhiannon stopped at a juncture of two sidewalks and rocked on her shoes. She looked at the other woman's book bag and thought to herself that Destiny had been in school about as long as she knew her. That meant she was probably near finishing. The fact that she couldn't remember Destiny's major just went to show how distant she'd gotten from her old friends when she moved out of Searchlight. "Glad to see you're still kicking."

Agent Rimes,

I understand that by leaving your business card with my associate you wish to speak with me. Tell me, is it business or pleasure? I can only imagine what the Department of Homeland Security would want with the likes of me.

Neverthless you have my address, as you so expertly delivered your card, and I'm sure that by now you have my phone number so please don't hesitate to drop by or call. I'm always willing to listen, I can't promise a positive outcome, but that's part of the fun, don't you think?

I'll keep my eyes and ears open.

Yours curiously,

Bethany Richards.
