Once again he caught himself frowning a bit at the drink he'd bought her. A year before she finished Hogwarts would have made her sixteen or seventeen. Six months might have meant she'd had a birthday, so she might have been eighteen, but more likely she was seventeen.
"I'm feeling a bit distressed that I might have contributed to the corruption of a minor," he said with an embarrassed sort of laugh, giving a nod toward her drink. "I ought to have ascertained the appropriateness of it before I offered."
Still, she had been one of his snakelets, and one of the more responsible ones at that. He wasn't really concerned.
"I see. I had hoped you'd come from some time period after myself so as to give me fresh information on the goings-on of your family. I'm here from May of nineteen ninety-eight.
"What do you do here in the village, then? Were you assigned a job or were you permitted to choose your own?"
