In spite of his best efforts, Marietta could tell there was some anxiety there, although not how much. Considering she was on edge about it as well, it was not surprising. Still, she too tried to appear as casual as possible as she stood and walked behind Severus' chair (thinking it would be less awkward if she was behind him). Definitely not taking a deep breath first, which would have made everybody even more uncomfortable, Marietta touched Severus' hair and tried to forget whose it was.
Oh Rowena, small talk!
Small talk was definitely the part of this job that Marietta found the hardest. Actually messing about with people's skin and nails was easy enough, but she had never been terribly good at making conversation, and it seemed to be an expectation that she should, just to put people at ease. Her shoulders tensed slightly but she answered quite casually.
"Just two months," she replied. "I arrived here in mid-August. I've been quite surprised by how quickly it seemed normal, actually."
Severus' hair and scalp were much as he described - oily at the roots, dry and brittle at the tips. It wasn't an entirely uncommon problem, but she knew it could be a frustrating one. There was no product build-up, at least, so he was washing everything out properly, as she would have expected him to.
"Do you feel like you have settled in well?" Marietta asked after a brief pause, forcing herself to remember the give and take of everybody conversation.
