The very scientific diagnosis made Marietta smile slightly, but not unkindly. She wasn't used to people coming in and being able to talk about their hair like that. Usually it was things like "I have so many split ends!" or "I can't get rid of the frizz." Over-active sebaceous glands was a very technical name for what was, essentially, greasy hair.
"How often are you washing it?" she asked. "Some people find that they have to wash it every day to keep on top of it, whereas others find that if they wash it every day it only stimulates the sebaceous glands further and exacerbates the problem."
People spoke sometimes about hair as having a life of its own, and Marietta had experienced her fair share of that, with unruly curls. She did find, though, that often the problem people had with their hair resulted with a blanket approach to what could be a very individual problem.
