Rosmerta had been pretty down in the dumps since the earthquakes and all the deaths. She'd lost a few friends in that disaster, and she wouldn't see them again. Or she would, and it wouldn't be the same. Neville, for one, was already back, but he didn't remember her. Nor was he around her age anymore. He was quite a bit younger, so Ros didn't even see a point trying to get that friendship back. They were no longer in the same circles, and that was the end of it. Maybe she'd change her mind later, but she didn't think it would be a good idea right now.
Her roommate was another area that got her down sometimes. Her first roommate had been brilliant, but Ros hardly saw Rose. With their similar names, one would think they'd get along better, but they just kind of existed in the same space. And there was some truth to the idea that she missed her pub, but she didn't know what to replace it with. There were already enough establishments of that kind that one of hers would just be unnecessary.
She did have a few friends around, though, and she knew it would be a good idea for her to go to Mac's disco night at the skating rink. She didn't know what disco was, but roller skating was something she'd done as a child. How hard could it be to pick back up, really? It seemed fun enough to skate along to music, although she wasn't dancing at the same time like some others seemed to be. Skating in circles was good enough while she regained her balance and relearned it all. But there wasn't much chatting and socializing to do while one was skating in circles, over and over again, so Ros felt it a good time for a break and some snacks. She wandered over to that area to see what was on offer, bracing herself on the closest surface while she decided.
