The soft sound of footsteps approaching floated into his ears but he attempted to ignore the sound as much as possible, hoping that whoever it was would just walk on by and leave him in peace. Most people would not talk to him anyway and if they did, it was to insult him or try to remind him of his future failures. He adjusted the grip of his hand on the wine bottle but didn't have another swig, staring straight ahead while the footsteps came closer.
A slight adjustment to the air told Gellert that the person had sat nex to him and his striking blue gaze glanced to the side, seeing the head full of red hair first. He mostly looked at the woman from the corner of his vision while she talked and he felt, rather then saw, the coin that she placed on his jeans-covered leg. He dropped his gaze to look at the coin, fighting the sneer that was trying to claw its way onto his face. "That is absolute nonsense. If it were that simple, no one would depart the village and the fountain would be full of coins," he replied, while his left hand rested on his leg next to the coin without touching it.
