The beginning of a new week meant going back to work and Gellert was never very thrilled about that. He had resigned himself to the reality of having a job in this village but that never meant he had to feel ecstatic about it. It felt like his job involved research and sitting at a desk most of the time, which had never been his style; he was definitely a man of action and purpose, and having neither had sent him into a spiralling state of boredom. So he'd taken as much time as possible to get ready for the day, having a leisurely breakfast before dressing in a pair of worn black jeans, his boots, a dark grey long sleeved shirt with a v-neck and his favourite leather jacket. His wand went into the left pocket of his jeans, like always, and eventually he headed off to work. When he arrived there, though, he was pleased to discover that it would not be a normal, boring day. Trees needed to be felled in order to create building materials and Gellert took a moment to recall the conversation he'd had with Rodolphus weeks before, glad that he'd listened to the man because it seemed like that day wouldn't be boring after all. Stopping at the grocery store first, Gellert got a small bag of things to eat and drink so that he wouldn't have to bother returning until he was done, because it would waste time. Then he headed out to the place that he'd been directed to. A couple of hours had passed by now, and Gellert wasn't even paying attention to the time while he brandished his wand at tree after tree. He had carefully chosen a small clump of trees that wouldn't drastically diminish the portion of forest itself, then gotten to work. His leather jacket and pack of supplies had been put aside and forgotten a while before, now sitting on a rock at the edge of the portion of forest so that neither would be crushed. He'd rolled up the sleeves of his shirt as well, the manual labour making him feel the warmth despite the cooler weather that had been sticking around the last few days. There was already a small stack of thick wooden planks stacked up nearby, and Gellert aimed his wand at another tree, choosing his spot carefully. "Diffindo," he uttered and made a motion with his wand, watching as the tree was instantly severed from its base and roots and began to fall; he flicked his wand a second time, this time lazily, casting a wordless levitation charm to prevent it from crashing to the ground loudly, and instead brought the tree down to rest on the ground gently. It was simple magic, but better then no magic. |
