Dinner Party - Ernie & Alice
WHO: Ernie MacMillan & Alice Longbottom
WHAT: Properly meeting his mate's mum.
WHERE: Malfoy Manor Gardens
WHEN: Saturday 23 August
RATING: PG
STATUS: Started in GDOCS & to be continued in comments.
Ernie couldn't help wondering if the dinner party foreshadowed his future at home. He was glad knowing that he reconnected with Draco in their own time since it wasn't anything he ever expected. He was sure Astoria had something to do with it. He never would have pegged them as a couple, but that was only because she never seemed Draco's type. Well, old Draco anyway. Ernie couldn't help how proud he was of his old friend. Draco made a very good life...a life filled with things that really mattered. Of course, Ernie was as well off as the Malfoys, but he never saw gold as the pinnacle of success and happiness. He was glad Astoria and Draco seemed to agree.
The party might have foretold Ernie's future, but he knew the guest list would be vastly different at home. For one thing, many in the gardens were long gone in Ernie's proper time period. Alice Longbottom was one of those people. Not physically, but mentally. He wanted the chance to know her. Neville was important to him. In a different world, Ernie would have known Alice very well. It was a sobering thought.
“Hello, Mrs. Longbottom,” he said when he managed to catch her alone. “May I have the next dance?” He smiled and bowed his head a little.
Alice was having a wonderful time at the garden party, especially getting a chance to see friends both old and new. She was glad to have accepted the invitation. The food was amazing, there was dancing, and the garden was beautiful. Alice could have stayed there forever.
At one point Alice found herself alone, not sure where her family had gone, but being alone didn’t last long when Ernie came over to her. It was hard to accept that Neville was all grown up, and just as hard to see all the other babies she had known, were grown up as well.
“Hello, Ernie. Of course you may,” Alice answered with a smile.
Ernie held his hand out as a new song began playing. He escorted her to the dance floor and gathered her into the traditional dancing pose. Ernie wasn’t great with modern dance despite his friends’ efforts, but he knew how to partake in the traditional sort. Even though the MacMillans were not snooty purebloods, they did maintain a certain lifestyle that called for proper decorum at times. “How are you?” He asked sincerely.
