“On occasion,” Narcissa said in a measured tone, following her sister with her eyes, “But, I actually have more freedoms here than I was ever afforded in my real life.” Which was true, there were certain expectations thrust upon her both as the youngest Black sister, and as Lucius Malfoy’s wife, that she had managed to escape here to an extent.
Narcissa, as was proper, waited for her sister to sit at the table before she sat across from her. Sitting with perfect posture, Narcissa folded her hands across the table. She was not surprised her sister had talked to Rodolphus, and had resisted crossing her arms defensively. “If you’ve talked to that man, then you’ve already colored against me, and there is nothing I can do to fix that.”
She stared at her sister then, she remembered being vaguely afraid of her sister, and now could no longer see why. Still, Narcissa pressed on. “You do not understand what I have seen in my time. I’ve been through two wars, one of which ruined my sons life, degraded our family, and saw my husband become a shell of what he once was. I lived in fear of a man who fancied himself a Lord when he was nothing more than a sad little king of a sad little hill. A man who punished my son relentlessly as a way to torment my family for the failures of my husband. I’ve seen the only sister I thought I had die to some mans strive for power. I will not let that man ruin my life here.”
“I have my son here, and my son has two children--- both of whom have married and had children with a Potter and Weasley respectively and I am happy for them. Moreover, I support them, and their budding families and they’ve accepted me when even my own husband would not look me in the eye. Most importantly, I have reestablish familiarity with our sister, and her family. And yes, her daughter is uncouth, and her son-in-law is… a beast, but they are… nice enough people, and have a son here who has been surprisingly helpful. I would encourage you to give them a chance.” She crossed her arms then, knowing that her words would have made her sister exceptionally angry, she kept going before Bellatrix could interrupt.
“I have a life here, and for the most part accepted amongst the society here. Rodolphus is not, and while I’m sure he cried victim to you all night, it is simply because he is constantly being abrasive and outright threatening to the villages citizens.”
