Lee was dead to the world. Not literally. That'd suck. But he always took the late shift on Saturdays, and he never saw the morning side of Sunday these days. So when the pounding on the door reached him in his dreams, and he, slowly, realized that Katie wasn't answering it, he got up and zombie shuffled to the front of the house. Whoever was outside obviously didn't hear his muttered, "I'm coming. Keep your pants on."
With a yawn cracking his jaw, he pulled the door open, and it took him a moment to figure out who he was staring at. When she turned, Lee found himself completely awake, and he quickly reached out and grabbed her upper arm. "Hey, baby girl. Where's the fire?" He belatedly thought that he should have called out something that they two would know to keep her there, and he braced himself to be hit, just in case that was her instinct even this young. "Rox. It's me. I swear."
