Susan stared into her cup of tea after her auntie was done explaining everything. She was concerned about this Gideon and if he was good enough for her auntie. The name sounded vaguely familiar, but Susan had never, to her knowledge, met him where and when she was from. Maybe he was from before her time. That's what it sounded like, anyway.
And a little cousin! Under normal circumstances Susan would be overjoyed, but she was still healing, and she wasn't really sure what to think, except that she wanted her aunt to be happy.
She looked up to see Amelia looking expectantly at her and gave her a small smile. The Healers had told her she needed to work on verbalising her thoughts. She'd forever be stuck in her own head otherwise, they'd said. "Sorry, Auntie," she said, again, the term of endearment falling from her lips easily. "It's been a rough time for me. I swear I'm not not listening, or trying to ignore you. It's just... a lot." She sighed. "But you seem like you're really happy here, and I am so glad you get the chance to be a mum, because I know for a fact you'll be a great one. I mean, if anyone knows first hand, it's me, right?" She shrugged slightly and, as an afterthought, reached for a cookie as well.
