Harry's face burst into a wide grin, and he set about opening his present very carefully and painstakingly slowly so as to make the experience last as long as possible. He looked inside the box and gasped, then put it on the table and stared at it. Not only was there not one but several things inside it, there was no way the box itself could even contain so many things. "It's bigger on the inside!" he exclaimed, staring at it with mingled awe and suspicion. He put his hand into it very carefully, half expecting to get dragged in by some box-dwelling monster, grabbed one of the books and pulled his hand back quickly. In this fashion he looked with fascination at his gifts, some of which were things he had never seen before, and he couldn't wait to figure out what they all were.
He looked up at Remus, who by now had had tea served to him and had probably finished it in the time it took Harry to look at everything properly. "This is... I..." he tried, but words failed him. "Thank you," he said finally. The world really was upside down when his own family didn't even bother to acknowledge his birthday, and yet here was a perfect stranger giving him more presents than he had ever had for any birthday combined. "You... really didn't have to..."
