Lee rolled over in his sleep and pulled the warm, softness closer to him. It wasn't his puppy, who normally slept at his feet. No. This was a body, soft and firm in all the right places. He nuzzled his face into the woman's--he could tell the person pressed against his chest was a woman--hair. She smelled of sun and air and something fruity, and he smiled. His hand came to rest naturally on her hip, and he pulled her closer to him. It didn't matter that he hadn't gone to bed with anyone. It didn't matter that he didn't know exactly who was lying with him. Something about all of this felt right, and, "If this is a dream, don't ever wake me up," he muttered.
When his voice reached his ears, Lee's eyes shot open and he looked around the bungalow. He could hear the ocean outside, and he frowned. He was sure he was awake. He was seeing in colour. He only had five fingers on his hand. Nope. He wasn't dreaming.
Slowly, he propped himself up on his elbow and looked down at the sleeping woman. "Katie." He breathed her name, a rare smile on his face. Maybe they'd finally done it. Maybe they'd finally convinced him to drink so much that they could send him someplace where he couldn't escape them. Which didn't make sense, because he lacked the feeling of heavy--well, any--drinking. He smoothed her hair behind her ear as she slept. "Katie?" He whispered her name, his fingers on her shoulder. "Wake up, KitKat. I have a question for you."
