Justin was rather happy he'd skipped his homework (just for the moment, of course) and had instead gone to the bowling alley with Charity. He had to go to Mike's Corner later for his apprenticeship, but he was free as a bird for the time being. And there was nothing on the books that said he couldn't spend time with his friend who happened to be a girl whom he may or may not have been interested in before he told her to go for Teddy. Honestly, he'd never had girl issues back in the real world, but in the village girls suddenly seemed to have noticed him. At least things weren't awkward between him and Charity like they could've been.
He was a bit surprised that Charity told him he could come behind the counter. That seemed to be against all the rules, but she was right that no one was there to see it. Besides, he worked with food anyway, so he kind of knew what he could do and what would be a bad idea. "I'll never turn down nachos," he said, "or some of whatever's in the candy case." There were times that Justin was selective in what junk food he shoved in his mouth, but this wasn't one of those times. He had some pocket money, so he could pay the alley for the nachos and a drink. Maybe some sweets, but not a lot.
Looking around, he glanced back at Charity. "Do you like working here?" he asked, purely curious. It seemed like a fun place to work, after all.
