Though Teddy leaving had crushed her heart in ways she hadn't thought possible, it had been a learning experience if anything else. It sort of showed her that time was short, and if she was going to plan on caring about anyone it was best to start sooner rather than later. But oddly enough now she was happy that he had gone. Not that she was happy to have lost him, but she was happy to have had the experience and allowing it to guide her into something even better. And that something better was Gideon.
But he was so much more than that. Really, without him Amelia was unsure of how much sleep she would have gotten either. Though sometimes she still woke up in a cold sweat out of a nightmare when he was out working late, more often than not she managed to sleep through the night knowing he was around. And she outweighed those victories with the few pitfalls that still seemed to exist on the edge of her subconscious mind. Fate had tossed a lot of crap at her, but she wouldn't have changed it if given the option at that point. She didn't plan on falling for anyone else, but really she was more than happy it had been him. She felt safe with him. And as cheesy as it sounded, Amelia also felt whole.
With his arms wrapped around her and his lips pressed to hers, Amelia almost forgot that they were standing in the middle of the kitchen. Instead when he pulled away to address her slight joke, she almost seemed in a haze and where she was. Snapping back into her senses though, she chuckled at his reply. "I knew it. Mother always did know what was up when it came to charming men." Looking over at the oven then back at him, a mischievous smile crossed her features. As though she read his mind she said, "The oven is charmed to turn off when it's done you know... and everything else will keep..." She trailed off, switching her mischievous look to one of pretend innocence, like she didn't know exactly what she was implying at that moment.
