Warning bells went off in Al's head. "We wrote a bit when he arrived," Al said carefully. "I mean he is your best mate and my mum knows him so...he is a good bloke. He has been nice to me." He didn't add Oliver treated him like someone worth knowing in a time where Al felt very much not like it. No point in beating a dead hippogriff. "Do you...not want me to talk to him?" The idea saddened Al, but he'd stay away if his uncle asked. Or maybe Oliver was just placating him and Al was annoying him? Or the future thing again. Al knew everyone was particular about their futures and he was a reminder.
