Horrific though the images were, Godric was still intrigued. He had been raised to believe that the devil of Christianity was real and would come for him if he misbehaved, and though his beliefs had become more Pagan (or at least more nondescript) as he had gotten older, there was always the lingering belief of childhood that nestled deep inside of him. Eyebrows furrowed, he wondered what other gods might be real, might be lurking about, hidden to help or to hinder. Wrapping his mind around this -- the Bible of his Father, the Devil of his Father -- he could not yet do it. He had convinced himself it was metaphor, but he believed Rowena, or at least, he believed that she believed what she had seen.
"Shame I missed it," he remarked idly. He didn't know what to believe right now. His time in Uppsala had made him think that Christianity was a story, meant to scare or inspire or educate, but not necessarily truth. To fall in line with the Old Gods seemed so simple when he'd been living among his Vikings, and now in the eve year of his 30th birthday, he still saw them as conceptualized beings of purpose and mentoring. "Was it really the devil? Lucifer?" He did not whisper the name, though he glanced around before he said it. "Or was it a devil?" Despite the obvious body language indication that Rowena was uncomfortable, he pressed on.
To him, the distinction was vital.
With the conversation turning back to the jewel, Godric's mind transported momentarily to where it was safely hidden in his room at the castle. He had almost brought it here tonight, but he had decided to work on another project. "I found it while exploring with Vogg and my son. Well, we found it. Rather large--" he held his hands apart to show the size "--red. Clear, though, like bloodwater turned solid, though sometimes I think I see movement from within. It's always warm; even if left out all night by the window, it's warm to the touch." Godric hesitated to say that he thought it might somehow be alive, but that was what he thought. "You need only hold it to feel the power coming from it, but I haven't discovered yet what it is, exactly, that gives it strength."
Nodding towards the far path leading out of his clearing, deeper towards the mountains, Godric said, "That way. We could.. go now, if you'd like." He was itching to get up and move, but if Rowena wouldn't come, he would reluctantly wait until morning.
