"At the very least," agreed Merlin, running his hand over the dewy grass. "I do not understand how, with all of your entertainment and distractions, people from your time can stop and enjoy all the beauty nature has to offer." He turned to look at her, a smile playing on his lips. "It is a deal, my lady. For this view, I would meet you here every night, even in the depths of winter."
He didn't press to ask why she was upset. If there was one thing he'd learned in his travels, it was that if a woman wanted to talk about her feelings, she would sooner or later. It was not his place to pry where his thoughts may not be wanted. But he did set his hand over hers in what he meant as a comforting gesture, hoping she wouldn't be offended or think him forward. It was clear to him that she needed a friend.
